Reposting Total Biscuit's response.
She raised a few good points, but overall, I just can't agree.
Video games do have a problem when it comes to gender, race and sexuality as well. Just because this may not actually promote racism, homophobia or sexism, doesn't mean it isn't any of those things.
The whole "Well if you don't like it, go somewhere else" argument is also uncomfortable. That sort of gatekeeping is exactly the sort of thing that makes me refuse to associate myself with any sort of "gamer" label.
And none of this has anything to do with her being conservative. If it was a liberal, or a neutral party saying these things, I would still disagree.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am.""Critics of games only want "the male video game culture to die," she says."
Well, just like civil rights activists want whites-only culture to die.
Remember this?

Nobody is saying we should keep harassment around.
But when we get people saying Dragons Crown is juvenile because of its art style is when I have concerns.
I want to know what the end goal of people calling gaming misogynist is. Do they want the removal of certain games? Or just awareness?
I'm fine with more diverse games, but I don't think people should be shamed for liking things that might just so happen to target males too.
(to that quote)
Speaking as a male, why the hell should gaming be a specifcally male culture?

I have a message from another time...I'd never argue such games shouldn't exist. I'll argue they're boring, lazy, and overall just not interesting, but if a person wants to make a sexist game, that's their right.
But by doing so, they're accepting all the criticism they'll deservedly get for it.
That's my stance, anyway. Though I will say I don't think it'd hurt anything if those games stop being made, as there are plenty enough already, I'm not going to fight for it or anything.

"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Hey, she spent a few weeks on the subject. She's an expert!
I'd love her to be the subject of one of those "dating" games, as she acts like a slut, giggles, let's the player virtual fondle her breasts, etc. Just her. And have her ENJOY IT, saying things like "I love having my titties held by you!"
She can't complain, right? It's a boys only culture!

Personally, I'd love for us to get to a point where a game being aimed at male consumers is one possibility, and not widespread enough to be assumed.
I have a message from another time...
Less of any gaming hurts. Instead of less "Games I Dislike" why not More "Games I like"?
You're strawmanning so hard it hurts.
Well as long as males remain the core demographic of core gaming, its going to stay that way. Gaming is a business.
Though I think publishers need to realize males really don't give a shit if a MC is a female (A very old fashion view)

Not really, no.
x4 ...wait... What?
Yeah, you kinda are.

i. hear. a. sound.
Then what point are you making. What does "Dating games" as you put it have to do with anything?
No, I really don't think less games with women who have massive tits and ass supported by thin straps of fabric that wouldn't support anything would be a bad thing.
But yes, if there were more games without that stuff, it would be fine for it to exist. But there aren't, and so the more of that stuff that gets made, the more annoying it gets.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Well I am just going to have to disagree with you there.
I don't believe in less games no matter what. I didn't like Gone Home but I don't think people should not make these games if they want.
I may not be able to speak for anyone but myself, but I can say there's a number of games I'd be more interested in buying if they weren't quite so embarrassing.
As for the "arguing for fewer games" thing, I'd just like the ratio to be more even. Which can mean more of one just as easily as it can mean fewer of the other.

I have a message from another time...Such as?
And sure, I got no problem with equalizing the ratio, just don't take away existing style games please. Too many of my favorite game genres are already gone, why take away even more games?
So many different variety of games from earlier gens are just plain gone these days, and its why I will NEVER EVER support less games of any type.

Like I said, I'm not going to argue those games shouldn't be made. I just don't think it would be a tragedy if they weren't.
Because they are annoying and gross. But if people are into that stuff, I'm not going to tell them they're wrong. Just... there's already so much. If everyone who made those games stopped, for like, a couple of years, and just made games with female characters that don't pander to dumb teenage fantasies, I'd be cool with it.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."I thought most of these quote unquote pandering games come from Japan. I can't think of many games in the last year or 2 that pandered that hard from an American game designer except Dragon Age but that's it.
Hyped for Hyperdimension Neptunia V 2Yeah, Japan often doesn't give a fuck what with games like Senran Kagura.
Though at the same time you'll probably find the most amount of FEMALE PANDERING games from Japan too. (Otome Games anyone?)
We have sexism topics. They are the only sexism topics. That's it.
