Avast, ye swabs! - Pirate RP Interest Check/Worldbuilding

With of course a few points where we split up into two groups.

I'm tempted to join, right now as a woman who's a mermaid in the water and naga out of it but that's really the only magical trait about them.

EDIT: Possibly a human found a way to become a mermaid, but expected her legs to return instead of a tail more suited for land and now has to live with it.

Looks human with light blue skin, small fins on the arms and legs, gills on the neck (she keeps her hair long to cover them). Special ability: Charming voice-more likely to convince people, although far from an auto-hit. Weakness: she needs to fully immerse herself in saltwater every 36 hours, so she's not a good choice for long duration work ashore. Still need to work on the characterization.

I think they're different enough, maybe something the two can relate to. Might make my character male for further differentiation though.

In some myths (and in PotC 4), mermaids' tails became legs when they got to dry land.

Tempted to join as a pyromanical drunkard with a really good throwing arm.

Well, this makes a pretty interesting collection so far, doesn't it?

The question, Questor, is this: why would a pyromaniac be a part of the pirate crew? Fire on ship in the middle of the sea is one thing nobody wants.

He sets the enemy's ship on fire. And he loves a good explosion as much as he likes blazing infernos. So the unstable but effective quartermaster?

I suppose that could work.

The more I'm hearing about all these ideas, the more I'm thinking we're going to have one crazy crew.

Regardless, seeing as 10+ people has expressed interest in participating, do you think it's appropriate to start a sign-up thread yet? Or should we wait until something else gets sorted out?

Btw, is this set in a fantasy world or our history with fantastic addons? If the latter what time period more or less?

Hey again all crew and landlubbers, just giving this thread a bump before discussion gets under way soon for some final ideas!

As Gilliam said, we're probably going to figure a little bit more of the world before we go sailing. ^_^; For that reason I wanted to once again apologize for my inability to start this RP from quite some time. Hopefully now that we returned to having two GM's we can figure something out and sail the seas with a bottle of rum in hand. :)

Hi, after waiting a little for Fergard to make a couple changes i think it's best just to check that people are still around, so if you've already submitted a character or want to at some point, just put in a quick post.

Apologies to anyone who feels this is taking a long time, but this is an ambitious undertaking compared to some RP's, since we'll need to build the world from scratch and in some cases as we go along. Any help and input is appreciated, and enough new character spots are free to go around.

Hopefully if everyone is still here, we can start discussing the key points we need to get the world built.
