Okay, so with the cast we've got it seems like we have a good amount of really ancient dragons that should by all accounts be fairly notable/legendary. Seems fair to reason that their histories may intertwine at various points, no?

All of those things, yes. I'll look over sheets and make some suggestions later.

Gotta say, I'm pretty excited for this. The prospect is just too cool.

An attempt to summarize the opening cast:

  • Nor-Rokkus (The Space Jawa)
    • A young male who's really fast and has ranged attacks. Has roamed most the world. Pragmatic, leaning towards good-ish. Loves collecting stuff and has taken on a fixer-upper project of trying to rebuild a kingdom.
  • Thirturas (The Big Bean)
    • Ancient male with skill for knowledge and 'brain bombs'. Evil, but driven by noble intentions. Loves books, rules a city full of biologically-driven cultists who are pretty much his desendants, and wants to control everything for the sake of order and saving the world.
  • Klovengaar'Zoldivur'Thurgruthlaat (Gladonost)
    • Old male with fire and lava powers. Undoubtedly evil, will kill anyone and everyone who gets in his way. History of oppressing and killing people, and wants to rule the world. Not for any benevolent goal, he just want to be the guy calling all the shots. Lives in a volcano.
  • Kun Wen Yuen (sgtpendulum)
    • "Young...ish" female with a skill for subtlety. Neutral and fragile with powers of indoctrination and long-term mind control. Basically looking out for herself, and mostly interested in acquiring new individuals for her collection she can have play 'house' for her.
  • Kruach Mor (Vox)
    • Ancient, primordial male of the seas. Has a great deal of elemental powers. Once good, but has turned evil and likes to corrupt individuals for his own purposes.
  • Graga (goodisgood)
    • A masculine Geezer, AKA "Grandpa Graga" (GET OFF HIS LAWN!). Nomad who calls his own shell his lair and has knowledge as his treasure. Leans good, but in a "Dragons as parents to everybody" kind of way. Capable of near literally turtling just about any aggression and has offensive rock powers.
  • Sangorius the Bloodseeker (Nman)
    • Middle-age(ish - leaning younger) male with bloody, bloody powers. Evil, but for the greater good and would probably be heroic rather than evil he wasn't stuck with the obligation of keeping an evil abomination of evil from escaping and destroying the world.
  • Adelinde (daltar)
    • Ancient female of great and phenomenal power - magic, shapeshifting, breath weapons, etc. About as heroic as they come, with her primary goal being a protector of others.

EDIT: There, I think that should do it if I'm not missing anything.

EDIT: Dropped Out: *Pehi'rahk'shike (Bassetete)

  • One of the oldest dragons still alive, female persona (technically genderless). Straight-Neutral who could be evil one day and heroic the next. Necromancer who has decayed to become nothing more than a living (and fragile) skeleton.

Oh man, thank you so much. I was getting tempted to do that myself because there's just so much stuff to read. So I guess that means we have like, 3 hero-ish dragons, 4 villains, and 2 neutrals?

Also I noticed some signups mention having human forms without specifically mentioning if it's just a special power. I thought this was more like, giant Lord of the Rings style Dragons where, barring any magical muckery, they're huge and single-form, plain and simple. Did I miss that we're going with Riftwar style dragons, where they have the "Forbidden Lore" that they can turn into a human but never revealed it so they could spy on them?

I'd wondered if them shapeshifting would be allowed, but since at least three or four of them are mentioned being able to do that, phew. ^^

But yeah, if I didn't have to be on a waitlist and actually had my damn profile up to prove it, I'd love seeing chatter about intertwining histories.

Alright, I've finished the list, adding in basic summaries - who they are, what they can do, what their purpose in live is, etc.

Let me know if I've missed the mark on anything.

I'm going to guess it kind of lies somewhere in between, where if you mentioned a secondary form you get one, but it's not quite a power unless there's something extra-special about it (in Nor-Rokku's case, for example, the secondary humanoid form is almost all down-side other than it lets him go places he couldn't in his full-sized dragon form).

Ruling on Shapeshifting...allowed as a power. Not inherent to all dragons though, it does qualify as a special power, and unless otherwise noted on your character it's not something you can just do. It is weighed against you a bit as far as any sort of power balance goes. Put simply, if your dragon didn't bother wasting any time on learning how to do that sort of thing, you have a bit more leeway with your other powers.

Also, nice listing of the dragons. Like Nman, I was considering building a similar list.

Going to be occupied into the evening, in all likelihood, but I'll be sure to check in and answer any questions anyone has.

Game will probably start Wednesday. If anyone wants to pitch some starting ideas at me in the mean time, go for it.

Yo Daltz! Adelinde's backstory has her liege lord-ish guy killed off by a rival, want Klovengaar to be said rival?

Okay, good. I had assumed you needed it to be a special power, not something inherent to all dragons, so I'd have to had tweak a few things in my sheet if everyone could turn into people.

Thirturas' organic manipulation is shapeshifting with some goobledy gook science thrown in. It's how he managed to produce the first few generations of his cultists: by changing the inside of his body so that he was essentially a new person every time the dirty deed was done.

So, who wants their dragon to have some kind of relationship with Brainy? Although he doesn't sound like a person who'd have lots of friends.

RE Shapeshifting: I personally was thinking of kelpies and other shape-shifting lake monsters when I added that bit for Kruach Mòr. It was my thinking that such a thing would prove useful when trying to sway humans to your cause.

As for relationships, there's probably some drama potential with his "used to be nice then becoming an evil bastard" thing. Like, maybe he used to be friends with one of the good dragons before he turned nasty.

So I guess that means we have like, 3 hero-ish dragons, 4 villains, and 2 neutrals

In addition, we also have 2 Younger dragons, 1 middle-age-ish, 1 Old, and then 5 that range anywhere from "Ancient" to "As ancient as is physically possible".

And, as long as we're looking at demographics, we've got 5 males, 1 quasi-Male, 1 technically genderless female, and 2 females.

Although the actual gather-the-data parts can get a little annoying.

By the way, is this world working on a universal language or two?

[up]Not really. There's probably a trade language that most mortals are familiar with, but there is no unified language. Which isn't really a problem, considering that even a young dragon is centuries old, and likely picked up plenty of languages in it's spare time. Not really a detail to sweat for most circumstances.

Good question though.

Hmmm dunno if I want Kloovengar to be the one to have attacked her liege. It would make them sworn enemies right off the bat and it would have been a cheap attack striking in force right after they ended another battle.

As for backstory with other dragons... at the very least, Adelinde would have approached all of the other dragons if they didn't hide themselves from her or avoided her attention to check up on how they are and keep up on events with them, giving to those who accepted means to communicate with her. Even the evil ones, though if they act in a manner truly despicable she may break off contact.

At the moment, I was thinking of starting the RP with her going to visit Kroach, bringing him a little present and to chat for a while.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

I was personally thinking that, important in-universe events aside, I was probably going to have Nor-Rokkus open up by taking day-by-day visits to the various territories as kind a scouting and information gathering bit. Maybe where he's finally getting comfortable with getting the basic groundwork in place for his fixer-upper of a kingdom and now he's ready to take a more serious look beyond simple scouting reports and rumors and the like at who else lives in the area that he'll have to consider in his future actions.

[up] While I'm fine with establishing that Adelinde has already visited all the dragons and established contact, I was actually kind of looking forwards to actually R Ping potential first contact between Nor-Rokkus and whoever he winds up meeting face-to-face.

Though I suppose it's also not entirely out of the question that maybe, in his travels, Nor-Rokkus actually has met some of the other dragons here, at least in passing, even if he didn't meet or talk with them much.

Frankly, given Nor-Rokkus age vs just how old most the other dragons here are, it's also not entirely out of the question that he might actually be descended from one or more of the older dragons somewhere in his lineage.

You want Nor-Rokkus to have moved into a place relatively close (I mean dragons can fly pretty far, and... Rokky? Rocky?... is the fastest dragon here so "close" is pretty subjective) to Sangorius's crib?

Vox Since: Dec, 2010
#24: Sep 7th 2014 at 6:28:00 PM

@daltar: That sounds good. I'm wondering, should it happen immediately after he wakes up and is still coming to grips with this crazy modern world, or when he's been awake for a while and is already in the process of reestablishing himself?

TheSpaceJawa Since: Jun, 2013
#25: Sep 7th 2014 at 6:39:46 PM

[up] Personally, I'd imagined that all of them were "relatively" close to one another. At least close enough that they're all going to have to pay attention to what the others are up to.

But yeah, if you want to have Sangorius living on the closer side of thing rather than the further side of things, I can work with that, though I imagine it's going to bring them into direct conflict with one another in relatively short order. tongue

Though if we go that route, I'd prefer we figure out how Sangorius' and Nor-Rokkus' hang outs relate to one another, keeping in mind that Castle Ajanya is specifically stated to 1) be located in a formerly fortified harbor city (one that I went with the assumption of being connected to an ocean or major sea of some kind) surrounded by mountains and 2) said city used to be the capital of an unnamed, defunct kingdom.
