OK guys, prepare yourselves! This is the dumbest, stupidest and most unintentionally hilarious horror trailer I have seen in years. Seriously, this is how you do a bad film trailer right.

Yeah, it looks pretty crappy. I don't think that's entirely the trailer's fault, though.

I never really understood the Hollywood/American obsession with ouija boards (even after watching a couple of movies about them). Can someone explain it to me?

It has existed for centuries

More like "century".

But anyway, I think that wasn't actually the worst trailer in the world for this movie. It didn't look exactly like a parody of horror movie trailers but nevertheless it makes the film look like purified cream of cliche and it doesn't even rip off the most up to date horror movies. It says "From the producer of Insidious" (a film that had more than one producer...) but it feels more like "From the producer of Final Destination and The Grudge 2".

What I don't get is why they're just calling it "Ouija." IMO, anyway, the word itself is inherently funny rather than intimidating.

I can't wait for moral watchdogs to get their hands in this. There are actually people who think this shit is real. Believe me I've met them

No just no. The ouija board is one of those few things from the "paranormal" that actually scares me. This film should not exist, and it's on the same scale as films that do not deserve to exist as Fifty Shades Of Grey.

My favorite part was when it quite clearly showed the board using a Y to spell something, and then the dude said it was spelling out "hi friend"

... This is some kind of hoax, right?

But that's a story for another time.

There are actually people who think this shit is real. Believe me I've met them.

My mom says she and her brother used one once, and she swears that something actually spoke to them. Mostly to complain about how they stepped on its feet every morning.

As someone who finds Ouija boards legitimately creepy, this looks like the most wonderfully campy thing I've seen in a long time.

Dare I ask it, is there any notable talent attached to the project?

[up] Nope.

It's the directorial debut of the guy who wrote Boogeyman(which was awful) and The Possession(better, and not by a marginal degree).

That dental floss bit nearly had me rolling.

Do you know what this feels like to me? Part of the weird "spiritual series" that currently has Jumanji and Zathura in it, with the mystical board game that becomes real in a different genre in each movie. They're even released every 10 years if Ouija counts as one.

Or Clue, for that matter.

Heck, why don't we already have a thread for "HGCU: Hasbro Games Cinematic Universe"?

Because the movies are what Tommy Westphall sees in his head when he plays board games.

Oh, come on. Is there anything Hollywood won't do? Ouija boards are fine if they make brief appearances in campy horror/fantasy works. But a whole movie? The only decent movie about a board game is Jumanji.

And now I've made myself sad.

And if I claim to be a wise man, well, it surely means that I don't know.

[up] There's a difference between a movie based on a board game and a movie about a board game.

Zathura isn't that bad either. It's no masterpiece, but it's perfectly watchable.
