I made a 3-panel column of Haruka Kotoura from Kotoura-san that would make a great demonstration of the trope, and I have two reasons why:

  1. Her expression in the first frame definitely shows queasiness and great internal pain (note the tears). She is also tightly covering her mouth and then heavily closing her eyes in the second frame (a common throwing up position).

  2. The Fade to Black clearly shows the intense passing of time as the throwing up is happening.

Here is the scene in question for context (the scene ends at the 17:39 mark). Do keep in mind that Haruka (the eponymous Kotoura-san) is actually a Telepath with Power Incontinence as you watch it.

Do you (dis)agree with my suggestion? Do you see anything wrong; if so, what makes you say that? Do you have any better ideas?

That's a good suggestion, and the page is currently imageless... Let's get some more opinions and maybe other suggestions.

Good enough for me - multipanel nonwithstanding.

I noticed a little stripe in the second frame due to a misalignment. Here's an updated version (also edited into the original post).

P.S.: It's nice to know that everyone's on board so far.

Nice suggestion, indeed, although I'm not entirely sure the 3 panels are needed... it could work with just the top and bottom.

[up] I personally added the second frame to show off the transition of initial queasiness going into the act. It also makes the third frame seem more natural and not forced or forged into place.

Other than that, Thanks for the vote of confidence!

The second panel could possibly be axed but it doesn't hurt it to be there...either's fine with me.

I think the second panel is kinda necessary. Without it, I think it would make the first frame look like she's trying to stay quiet about something horrifying rather than holding vomit in her stomach, an ambiguity I want to avoid.

1 and 3 would work. 1,2 and 3 is much stronger.

[up] I would call that JAFAAC. It doesn't show any context of anyone about to vomit, but rather the creator's simple refusal to do so. Plus, there's text. When it comes to image pickin, Show, Don't Tell; the less words, the better.

It may work as a joke-y image, though. We likes these.

True, but my suggestion is more articulate. Any reader can mimic the poses in the panels to feel them as typical vomiting poses. A good parody is always nice for an image, but one with more showmanship to go along with the definition would be more convincing, yes?

[down] Wow... That did not cross my mind at all, but yeah, very much the case.

It's been over a week, and I don't think a crowner is necessary since there were no objections to the OP.

[down] I'm well aware of the strong need for consensus. I'm just saying it's pretty silly to have a crowner now because there has been no real counter argument against the OP.

[up] Just to note, we usually seek stronger consensus before the image is put on the page.

The suggestion in OP works well enough for me. [tup]

If extra consensus is needed, then sure, the OP is fine.

Another vote or two for the OP and we can chuck it up onto the page.

Shall we caption it too? If so, I can write this in:

"Hey, Kotoura-chan, are you okay?" Apparently not.
