Caption Discussion/Repair Thread:

Go To

This is the thread to use if you feel that the page image itself is good but the caption needs help.

If you think that both the image and the caption are poor, please make a thread in Image Pickin' for the page, and we'll work on the image and caption both at the same time.

As with other TRS and IP threads, please state your reasons and make your case in your first post. Don't make the other posters spend time trying to pry it out of you.

Two starting suggestions:

  1. This thread ought to be pinned.
  2. Its title should replace the "Needs help:" part, not the tag.

Savage Wolf:

The image was originally put up with the caption "As if being lost in a spooky forest wasn't bad enough..." as decided by the IP thread here in February of 2012.

Sometime between then and December of 2013, the image was changed and the caption deleted without discussion. The actual edit record has fallen off the page history. It probably happened during the page split of Everything Worse With Wolves into Noble Wolves and Savage Wolves.

In December of 2013, the BatB image was restored by the decision of IP in this thread. The caption was not restored, probably through an oversight. There was no mention of the caption in the thread that decided to restore the BatB image.

On the 14th of February of this year, Mysterious Zorua 1994 added the caption "A Princess of Heart vs. Ornlu and his gang". Mysterious Zorua 1994 acted in good faith; at the time they made the change, the page did not have a caption, however, the potholes have no relationship to the image and do nothing to make the image work better.

I suggest that we restore the previous caption, which was relevant to the trope and the image, not simply gratuitious potholes to two other works.

The caterpillar suggests to switch the older caption back in, as it's more pertinent to the image than the random opaque reference that is there now.

The old caption is relevant to the trope, and handily won a crowner also. The new one seems like in-joke references I don't get.

+1 to restore old caption for Savage Wolf.

The current caption on Go Through Me is a bloated mess. I'd proposed "The compassionate soul may provide a stronger shield than steel or stone." as a replacement in the original IP thread; moving the discussion here for more focused discussion.

I like that change. The current is not only a bloated mess, it relies entirely too much on the potholes.

I also prefer the suggestion. It's clear, concise, and somewhat poetic.

Blame Game has a somewhat lame caption. Would something along the lines of "Your Fault! No, your fault!" work?

Laser-Guided Karma's caption was commented out per its IP thread; any ideas on a replacement, or should we just kill it completely?

From what I can see, the complaint is that it's way too long and wordy, and I don't disagree. You could probably trim it to work, though. Something like "No actual lightning strikes for kicking cats, of course... but the cat will put a hit out on you."

Laser-Guided Karma: Kick the Dog is a villainy indicator trope, not a "hurting animals" trope, so it shouldn't be sinkholed.

Shall we go ahead with the Blame Game caption change?

How about "Payback can be shockingly quick" for Laser-Guided Karma?

Go ahead and make the change to Blame Game. The suggestion is way better than the old one, and if anyone ever comes up with something better, we can always change it again.
