Apparently today was National Military Forces Day, which I had the notion it was on 12th October, coincidental with certain remarkable event for this nation, and possibly yours, but no, it was today, since about a week, because, well, why not?
Haw Haw HawUhm, nothing comes to mind for the 12th out of the back of my mind. We have the 3rd of October as Day of German Unity.
"You can reply to this Message!"12Th October is regarded as de Day Christopher Columbus arrivdd at Cuba, thus, discovering America.
During the Franco years it was called the Day of the Spanish Race (As in ethnicity, not as in cars competing) but in the seventies democratic governments decided upon a less supremacism vibe and called it Spanishness Day. Any way, it is traditionally honored with a display of the (lol) spanish military power presided by The King, the Heir Apparent, one of two generals, the Prime Minister and the Mayor of the city of Madrid, as well as the regional government titualr, so many people thinks this is the Military Forces day, but it seems the real MF day was today

Haw Haw HawAh, that's actually pretty interesting :)
"You can reply to this Message!"Well, discovering Cuba, much to the astonishment of the Cubans who thought they'd discovered it...
Yesterday was the Queen's official birthday (i.e. the day designated as being the monarch's birthday regardless of the real one so we don't have to keep moving the bloody thing about) and thus the Trooping of the Colour at the Queen's birthday parade.
It's a nice spectacle for the tourists and gives the Household Division something to do apart from standing still for prolonged periods. Specifically, marching about a bit and then standing still for a prolonged period.
Apart from that, it was a busy day for me, with multiple incidents of varying severity to deal with at work followed by two call-outs for the fire engine at night.

'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'When our king celebrates his birthday they just air shorts on TV with famous people talking about how nice he is.
I guess that's why we are not an Empire anymore...
Haw Haw HawThat and Sir Francis Drake.
Well, I'm half-heartidly advising germany replaces our federal president with a Bundeskaiser (Federal Emperor) again, just for fun. With my main candidtate being Helmut Schmidt.
So we can get in on that fun too ;)
"You can reply to this Message!"Oh, you totally need a Kaiser, with Oompah bands and Pickelhauben for all! It'll be just like the good old days, before that malarkey with the trenches and machines guns.
Why, yes, my mental atlas is mostly inhabited by cartoon characters. It is also slightly out of date. It still has Bombay and Konigsberg on it. In fact, it still has Ceylon and Hispaniola on it.

'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'It could be messy to persuade all the little slav states to put themselves under a Habsburg rule...
Haw Haw HawThat idea has my full support. Long live Kaiser Schmidt!
A different shape every step I take A different mind every step of the lineWouldn't it be Kaiser Helmut I?
'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'You're right, come to think of it.
Now I'm trying to come up with titles. Seine kaiserliche Hoheit Helmut, der Erste seines Namens, Kaiser der Bayern und der Preußen, Herr der sechzehn Lande und Beschützer des Bundes ...something like that.
A different shape every step I take A different mind every step of the lineKaiser der Bayern, der Preußen, der Hessen, der Baden, der Schwaben..
this might go on a bit?
"You can reply to this Message!"I'm watching King Felipe VI coronation...
Haw Haw HawYeah, its on our Channels too ^^.
Also, today is Happy Cadaver, or rather Corpus Christi, which again is a national holiday.
(Happy Cadaver is a literal translation of the german name for the day, Fronleichnam)
"You can reply to this Message!"I didn't knew what Corpus Christi was until I was considerably older
And I am a catholic!
Haw Haw HawThe Holiday of the Cheery Stiff? That's a new one on me. Corpus Christi is a college in Cambridge University, isn't it?
'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'Its also a city in Texas, if I remember correctly.

This idea has been kicking around a few times in my head as a general trivia thing:
What kind of day it has been today?
Basically, in the place where you are, is the day some special relevance, or in short "what kind of holiday is where you are today."
Is it the storm of the Bastille, the day of German unification, etc etc.
Main qualification is that it is either a religious or national holiday, preferably one which you get off.
Its a bit to show the different forms of holidays and what effects they have. Is it celebrated where you are too or is it something entirely different where you are.
I start this today with:
Pentecost Sunday (or rather Pentecost Monday, depending on when I finish this post)
Type of Holiday: Religious (Christian)
Public Holiday: Monday is a public holiday in Germany, possibly because after over thousand years of being a christian monarchy/ies people didn't have the heart to take all those public holidays away from people when the Weimar Republic declared we don't have a state religion. (There may be a more dignified explanation for that but it makes a nice headcanon)
