You're right... I haven't heard of it. XD But it seems interesting. And I loves me some Guillermo del Toro.
First trailer
Yep, still signed up.
Looking for some stories?I wish people wouldn't make adverts that go through the entire plot of the film. That said I'll definitely see this if I get a chance because the visuals are stunning.
!!!
That's all I can express after seeing the trailer, it just looks sooo good!
The New Age of Awesome is here! Not even the sky is the limit!Great that there's a trailer, though the basic premise seems suspiciously similar to Corpse Bride now that I think of it. XD Still wanna see it, though.

And how does the book tie into anything?
To me, it looks more like a reimagining of the Orpheus myth.
Looking for some stories? For me, it's just the idea of a man having to escape from a colorful Land of the Dead in order to reunite with the woman he loves...
Pretty much everything else seems original enough. XD
Ooh, looks pretty sweet. Love the art style.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI think it would have to involve her going to fetch him to count as Orpheus-based. And then messing it up somehow because no one in mythology can follow basic instructions.
I think it's more along the lines of what would happen if the snake bit Orpheus instead.
Looking for some stories?I'm squeeing with excitement and having Ron Perlman as the villain just makes me have a rictus grin of happiness.
Ever-fookin-ADDED to my watchlist!!

Here's Del Toro talking about it. The idea of the song covers gives me pause, but not that much. It can be done well. And yay, I wasn't crazy when I spotted the Orpheus thing!
Also, you guys should totally check out the website if you haven't already. They've put up several pieces of concept art and talk about where the inspiration for the designs came from.
Looking for some stories? This looks absolutely incredible. I'm with everyone else, the visuals look outstanding.
- ahem* Now if you excuse me, I. Must. DRAW!
Even Amid Amidi likes what he sees!
Also, in an interview, the director said he wanted the film to look exactly like the "Art of..." book.
It is definitely the most unique looking animated film I have seen in a long time. I saw one guy on Tumblr who thought the screenshots were from an independent short at first.

An animated film that looks as good as its own concept art. I like the sound of it, and they're awfully close.

OH MY
MUST SEE
YES.
(Though I wonder if this means that the Pixar Day of the Dead film in the works will get canned because of this much like how Newt did after Rio & Alpha and Omega came out...)
I'm having to learn to pay the priceProbably. But judging from the way Pixar seems to be going right now, I'd rather have this movie than theirs.
Looking for some stories?I THOUGHT the art style looked familiar! Looking forward to this movie. :3
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Sugar skulls and churros and del Torro and Ron Perlman and Sin-Eaters!
If nothing else the film looks gorgeous. It has everything needed to be great though, so hopes are high!
But that's a story for another time.edited 31st May '14 4:02:47 PM by FigmentJedi
AKA the animated movie of 2014 that you most likely haven't heard of, which is a shame. It's being directed by the creator of El Tigre, Guillermo Del Toro is the executive producer and the visuals are not only gorgeous but the most unique I've seen in quite a while. Take a look.
