To be fair, at least the G1 Tank version of Megatron is pretty clearly him. Not every toy is poorly done.
...Unless it's one for fast food Restaurants. Jeez, those are awful. It's not that they fail to resemble the character, it's just that they're completely terrible toys with nothing worthwhile to them. They're super low quality at best. Working at a Burger King for nearly 11 years lets you see some pretty bad stuff.
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.It has been the toy versions of Devastator and technical diagrams that has caused most of the contradictory reports of how many vehicles make it up. The Supreme toy had 6 pieces, the small version had 7, some diagrams claimed up to like 11. The problem is that a bulldozer for an arm does not match the scale needed to be next to the enormous escavator used for the body. The movie showed multiple vehicles being assimilated to compose just one arm.
Toy◊.
Film◊.
They don't look that different to me.
EDIT: Wait, do you guys mean the original Devastator toy or the movie toy? Because I grabbed the latter for this comparison.

Also your Film screenshot is from the game, not the movie :-P
You'll notice he doesn't have threads for a collar/upper torso like his toys do. His green foot is a completely different shape. His left hand is also completely different. I mean, yeah, the general shape is there. That's about it.

Oh, my bad. You're right, that looks pretty different.
I mean, I probably wouldn't notice if I was 10 and buying a toy of the movie because that "enemy's scrotum" line really resonated with my prepubescent sensibilities. The biggest thing that stands out is the big red shoulders that don't exist in the movie; the rest are fine details.
But it does make the point that the toys aren't always perfect representations of what appears onscreen.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I'm not even quite sure what the argument is anymore, but here are the details on Devastator from tfwiki. Basic point is that they are a mixture of so many different vehicles it's hard to figure out exactly what his components are. Show Accuracy/Toy Accuracy is a major element of Power Ranger too, but at least they don't have to mimic and maintain scale with real world vehicles.
My original point is that Devastator is such a hodge podge of parts and vehicle, what he's made up is up to interpretation. And I wouldn't want the megazord to be the same way.
I don't hate it.
But where's Heisenberg?
I don't mind it. If anything I like how it actually follows the original design for Alpha. Unlike some/most of the stuff we've seen so far.
I'm not sure how I feel.
My various fanfics.Looks neat. I look forward to seeing him in-film.
(V)(;,,;)(V)Same here tbh.
The bulbous "eyes" look kind of weird, but maybe it'll look better in motion. The rest of him reflects the general design scheme of the alien stuff, crystalline and rock candy.
...yeah, I see it. Loosely follows the original design, but subscribes the design that they're going with. Nice bit of Ugly Cute going on there.
They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!I don't get the large belly. What is the point of giving a robot a prominent belly? How does that make it any more functional at anything?
Obviously they're fans of old school Toonami.

"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."Also Marvin from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It's rather common with small robots with big heads, a bigger belly makes them look more robust, especially if the rest of them are spindly.

Besides, maybe all the major computing systems are in the belly? Or simply a large power supply?
They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!Remind me of the dinosaur Voltron.
Would have preferred a cleaner picture of all the zords.
(V)(;,,;)(V)From what we can actually see: I love it, I can get behind it.
Million times better than the ones from MMPR: The Movie, though that's hardly a high bar for quality.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Sabertooth looks nice.
Shame they went with something this foggy.
You seem to be under the impression I was referring to the toy versions of Devastator. I wasn't. I was referring to the film version exclusively.
If We're bringing the toy versions in, both of those resemble Film Devastator the same way G1 Megatron resembles his toy. In that "The vague silhouette is sort of there. Maybe."
