One news post about it. Weirdly enough, a lot of people are reacting very negatively to her for this decision. She's retired from the movie business, wishes everyone else well but is not interested herself. I think that's perfectly reasonable.

I have to say that I'm also wondering where they plan on going with the sequel... I have frightening visions of them deciding to "make it fresh" and have a woman cross-dressing as a man/butler to ensure that her children have a feminine influence in their lives.

Who? Ooooh, yeah. Matilda was a good movie.

She seems pretty cool now.

Anyway, she's obviously right though. Sequels usually suck. And she retired a long time ago anyway.

The idea of a Mrs Doubtfire sequel in general is an extremely odd decision. Well done to Mara Wilson for not letting herself be bullied into doing a follow-up of something that was perfectly fine as a single entity of cinema.

Is Mrs. Doubtfire even that popular a movie nowadays? It really feels like Hollywood's overreliance on franchises is reaching the point where the brand names chosen don't even have to make sense from an economic standpoint - just being a semi-well known brand name is enough to get a movie greenlit.

Is it bad that I thought the film was kind of boring as a kid?

Although my opinion might not matter, as I thought 3 Ninjas was pretty cool back in the days.

[up]I liked 3 Ninjas as a kid as well.

I wasn't really interested in it I liked what I saw of Mrs. Doubtfire but I only ever watched it a few times in my life.

^_^ I enjoyed 3 Ninjas as well. The second movie wasn't bad. Never saw the third one (which, I have heard, was supposed to happen in between the first and second movies). I enjoyed Mrs. Doubtfire, although I only saw it last year (my parents were picky about what movies we could watch, and that one never came up on the list). I also highly enjoyed the book, Madame Doubtfire, which is more nuanced with both Daniel and Miranda being bad parents in their own way (and "Mme. Doubtfire" actually being very bad at housekeeping and only being saved by the kids pitching in and working hard so that they don't lose him) with Daniel's amazing talent being gardening rather than acting, which he's actually kind of lukewarm at.

If this does get made, I do hope that Mara Wilson makes a guest appearance in at least one of the inevitable TGWTG reviews.

Wait... but there's nothing to build a sequel off of? At all...

Honestly, why? Mrs. Doubtfire was one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. I mean, look at the premise - a dad is so desperate to see his own children that he resorts to disguising himself as a woman to even be able to see them.

Why the fuck do they think THAT warrants a sequel? Why not make Requiem for a Dream 2?

Man, thank heaven they're finally making a Mrs. Doubtfire sequel. I've been awake every night for the past seven thousand, four hundred, seventy two days, wondering what happened to Robin Williams' character.

At last, closure!

Personally, I've spent more times just wondering what the hell happened to Robin Williams.

True. He is only in his 60s, an age at which many male actors do quite well, Sean Connery for example, but the last few works I've seen him in, he seems to have aged appreciably. As to where he's been, filming Night at the Museum 3 among others.

Going back into broad family friendly comedy after being so brilliant as a straight actor in One Hour Photo and Insomnia? Yeah, Rob. Smart decision. Sack your agency and anyone else who tells you that this decision is anything other than stupid.

Eh, he got pretty rave reviews for his portrayal of Teddy Roosevelt in the Night at the Museum movies. Much better than RV...

The sequel to Old Yeller is called Savage Sam. Also, what the hell are they thinking with this? I don't foresee anyone actually wanting to see a Mrs. Doubtfire 2. Where could they even go with the story?

Savage Sam is a good movie by the way.

I hope they recast Pierce Brosnan's character with Daniel Craig.
