I'm not a very high level civ player but they have been moving very hard towards discouraging ICS and similar strategies in civ games for a while now, i would be surprised if Beyond Earth changed that.
Why is ICS (infinite city sprawl for those not gifted with knowledge of 4X initialisms) considered so bad? I mean, clearly you don't want to make it too easy, but conquest/domination victories are almost impossible without ways to pacify all those cities, and if you provide ways to do that, then you can get ICS.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It's not nessecarily bad- in fact, in the vanilla version of V it was considered one of the best strategies around. However, Firaxis began clamping down on the strategy, such as the per city technology penalty introduced in BNW. As of now the only civs that can reliably ICS are ones that can build a strong religion (Mayans and their OPyramids, Egypt and their free happiness generators) and even then it can be a struggle.

Personally, I would like it if a tall strategy could be viable in multiple victory conditions so the game doesn't place so much emphasis on settling every square kilometer of land. If the players don't, the AI does.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Seeing the demo at E3 - the game looks gorgeous, but I'm really excited by the tech "tree", which is a spiderweb with a starting point in the center. Be interesting to see how the three ideologies come together in the final product.
I'm hoping the tech web gets another coat of visual paint; nonlinear is fine, ugly is not . I kind of wish they'd gone with a Sword of the Stars esque tech "forest," only with more interconnectivity; I think it'd have worked better presentation wise.
Question that occurred to me was whether or not someone will make a mod that lets you use the Alpha Centauri factions and leaders in this new game engine.
Because I would play that.
Almost certainly.
New Faction leader interview. This time it is Daoming Sochua:
Sounds interesting. They're doing a pretty good job giving her a distinctive voice, I hope they can pull it off with all the factions.

Also, they just put a new gameplay video up:

This one gives us footage of quest and espionage screens; the orbital layer; the different architecture and clothing civs get when adopting Affinities. Looking good so far.
Looks soooooo good. Nice to see the leader clothing stuff in action.
Yeah, this is the demo I saw at E3.

It's weird that this version of Brazil seems to be the opposite of Civ V's Brazil faction...
Seems an homage to Corazón Santiago to me.
Well, we got his dev dairy now:
This guy is starting to look like the love child of Colonel Miles Quaritch and Colonel Corazon Santiago.
"Compadres, it is imperative that we crush the freedom fighters before the start of the rainy season. And remember - a shiny new donkey for whomever brings me the head of Colonel Montoya."
Franco-Iberia has been revealed:

True, but the devs said if you leave them alone they tend to leave you alone.
