I feel like Shingo has been getting built up as a real player. I might be wrong, but consider that he was the first person after Yuuya to actually Pendulum Summon.

Sure, he stole the cards, and had Reiji guiding him, but I wonder if they were dropping clues that he wasn't a complete dunce.

And lets not forget his match with Yuuya. I think there's potential there. He's also got his own Pendulum cards, and has a little more experience with them that others don't yet.

Of course, he may get flattened like a punk. We'll see.

Because he has. They've been showing that's he getting better each time he duels.

From now on his deck will be a permanent monster archetype as well, though different from the ones he used against Yuya in their last duel. I mean I even post this image earlier in the thread◊, and that the two of them had kinda become rivals/friends after their second duel.

And he saved Blue Ninja, so he's clearly the hero we deserve.

That said, Standard Duel Disks suck because of the penalty due to joining duels. Reiji should have had them altered because he knew Jobelisks were going to show up. He's screwing everyone over that he wants as an ally as a result.

Unless your disk is thrown off of your wrist like what happened to Yuto when he disappeared (he wasn't carded but still), I think it goes into your soul card along with you.

More to the point, he kept those rules in place even when he knew some of them were fighting people who would turn them into cards, putting them at a disadvantage.

He should have made it so that he could allow them to join duels with the fusion invaders without paying the penalty. It would have been smarter.

I assume it's an irrefutable rule in place for the tournament, because genius planning.

Alternatively, Reiji put it in place solely to screw over the Obelisks, and it has only backfired hilariously.

Speaking of those guys, how the hell are they all starting off with Poly, three hounds, and the exact traps they need? It's bad enough when the MC's manage to get their combos off every duel, but every single mook having the exact same opening hand with no variation?

Technically everyone who has suffered the penalty has had standard duel disks. So it's possible it doesn't even work on Academia ones, since they're from another dimension and all and have abilities like carding built in.

For example Yugo interfered against the Jobelisks and did not suffer a penalty. I swear if Reiji did this on purpose it's a pretty big dick move on his part especially if he considers it part of his testing for Lancers.

Also going to put this here: I think that if Yuya beats Sora and changes him for the better, then he'll likely fail to do it to Reiji in the episodes after that. Because I can only see him succeeding with one or the other.

If they're running a forty-card deck and none of their cards are limited I can imagine them simply stuffing their decks with duplicates.

At least it was spiced up a bit presentation-wise this week, but Jesus Christ, does Yuya remembering Yuto's last words to him have to be a Once an Episode thing?!

Well, Yūto is absent from Episode 49's cast list, so it seems we get a break from Yuto's Duel de Egao.

It could be the reason Yuuya will be dueling Reiji for.

Man, Crowler would have an anger induced aneurysm if he saw that his Ancient Gear monsters were being used in such a way.

The worst thing about watching shows in progress is getting all caught up. :'(

Duel 48. AND ACTION!

• Competent Obelisks. After the Armageddon last episode, the force needed to save some face.
• Awesome combinations can be a recipe for disaster, as Mitchie and Teppei learned... And the Legendary Fisherman leveled up!
• Hikage got carded. But Tsukikage was saved by Neo New Shingo. Wonder why Reiji didn't tell him about the penalty rule, though...
• Yuya was about to lose his cool. But then he remembered: Keep Calm and Bring Smiles To Everyone. Gonna be tough cracking Sora's shell, though. And Yuya always remembering to bring out smiles through dueling lately... I think it just shows how his resolve is easily shattered under stressful situations. Like what's happening right now.

Yeah, I wonder if Reiji is up to something with not removing the penalty once the Obelisks showed up. More to the point, I wonder if he was setting up Sawatari as a sacrificial lamb (it wouldn't be the first time he used the latter).

Well, lets see how things develop now.

Something kind of occured to me earlier today: Selena is a Fusion user, Kurosaki uses Xyz, Gongenzaka uses Synchro and Sawatari is probably sticking with Pendulum summoning. So, basically, the current group fighting the Obelisk force has one duelist for each of the major summoning methods in this series. (I wonder if Mieru will regain consciousness in time to get in on this as well, maybe?)

That's a good point.

Looking at it that way, it's good that Reiji sent Sawatari. His pendulum could be good support (plus, he's the only person there who seems to use action cards).

Yeah, I'm guessing that Yuya, Selena/Yuzu, Gongenzaka, Shun, and Shingo are going to be the Lancers for now for the Five-Man Band dynamic and to represent all the extra deck summoning methods.

Tsukikage's probably toast.

He got a bit of hype, unlike the other throwaway finalists, didn't he? He might at least do something cool before going down.
