Doesn't need to be fancy. Look at real-world nicknames for intelligence agencies, which are essentially government-sponsored secret societies (or, rather, what they try to be, under the bureaucratic bickering and infighting). The Agency, the Cousins, the Black Chamber, Moscow Centre, the Cheka.
I suggest something like "Baker Street" or "the Secretaries"note for the nickname of the group. It's nice and nonindicative, and carries plenty of out-of-universe mystique among readers (in addition to the Sherlock Holmes associations, the real-life Special Operations Executive was based there). Bonus points if they're not actually based in Baker Street. Prior to the 20th century intel agencies tended to be run on an ad-hoc basis with no real "agency name", so you could do the same with your secret society.
Charlie Stross's cheerful, optimistic predictions for 2017, part one of three."Project Bakerstreet" does sound like an intriguing name for the project. But as for the hidden city itself (established in the late 1870s-early 1880s) on an island near South America, names elude me for the time being.

I'm working on a character for my RPG group that's essentially a gender-swapped Expy of Magma from the New Mutants. Instead of the hidden region being based on Ancient Rome, I decided to base it on the Victorian Era. The idea was that back in that era, several families of scholars/soldiers/etc. created this hidden locale to maintain the era's ideals or what have you.
As a result, the character occasionally acts as a sort of Fish out of Temporal Water. The problem is, I can't think of a name for this society. Magma's was known as Nova Roma, but somehow, I don't think that "New London" really has a good ring to it. Any suggestions?
