YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, just really excited and can't do a fan girl squee without my dad giving me weird looks. Best thing to come back to after I've been away from the Western Animation section of the forum for a few days!

I don’t even know anymore.

It's on now, and I've always thought it was kind of a neat twist how the story has more in common with a Bond-flick than a straightforward superhero story.

I think I saw it written once, probably around the time that Cars 2 came out, that Pixar should just go ahead and make a Bond movie.

I really wish Brad Bird had a publicly available e-mail or a Skype or something, because I have the perfect script for Incredibles 2 RIGHT HERE, IN MY BRAIN. They could start work on it TOMORROW.

I know I might sound strange saying this, but was I the only one against Jack-Jack joining the family when it comes to battling? I mean, he's too young. Then again, he's no ordinary infant.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy that I got a Digital Copy of the Incredibles for Free with my Disney apple application, because of how much I really love this movie!

It's probably safer than leaving him at home where he'll probably set the house on fire again. Now he can actually be supervised by his parents. And no villain is a match for him.

[up]Meh, you make a good point. I mean, I think it bugged me because Jack-Jack is an infant and he does not know what he is doing, but then again, like you said, villains won't be a match for him. I mean, just look at what Jack-Jack did to Syndrome XD!

You know what I've always wondered about The Incredibles? Why everyone likes Violet. Don't get me wrong - I love the movie and I certainly don't hate the character but why does Violet get so much fan love? Espescially next to much awesomer characters like Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Edna Mode, and Frozone. I mean - this might just be me - but her character seemed the weakest in the movie. She was just your typical middle school girl and she didn't really have very many funny or cool lines. She did go through some large character development but if we can't care about the character very much then it's hard to care about their development. I'm probably the only one who thinks this but there you have it.

On the plus side, YAAAAAAAAY, now we need a Bug's Life 2 before a fourth Cars movie.

[up]Human Antagonists???

Anyway, been discussing the idea of an Incredibles sequel with friends a lot recently.

So, I posted a few pages ago about the ideas of the movie which were...

Dash is older (College Age?) and athletic and takes the idea of the Tony Stark-Casanova hero to heart and this isn't entirely building him a happy life. He's moving through life so fast and going from one relationship to the next and not slowing down (I figured out how to work his speed powers in!!!) and that's where his character arc could start.

Violet is out of college. She's doing what she likes (was there anything in the first movie she was really into?) and finally is building a career, but she's been passed the mantle of her Parents as being a Super Hero and she tries to balance the two worlds of being a civilian and being a Super; She wants to do what she loves and have a career and friends and etc, but she feels responsible to help people and be a Super because she has the ability to do something and there's an element of guilt there. Not exactly the extreme of 'Chronic Hero Syndrome' but she could feel guilty for taking time for herself when there are people to be saved. A more dramatic take on it and a very interesting issue with the Citizen-Super Dual Life issue.

Jack-Jack is the teenager who doesn't know who he is; His powers haven't settled and he's brand new to the Super Hero business (Bob and Helen have only trained him but never taken him out) and he finds that his power inconsistency is endangering himself, his siblings, and the people he's saving. He's having an identity crisis and needs to figure out who he is; much like how a lot of teenagers feel to go in with the power-personality metaphor.

The plot kicks off with Bob and Helen taking down a villain (Bomb-Voyage again for a brick-joke Call back?) and they're noticing that they really getting too old to be doing this; sort of a dark-ish call back to Bob's back in the first film. So, they reach out to their kids who are have been semi-distant for years now; Violet is living in the big city and starting her career, Dash is living it up in college as a big College Football star and becoming quite the Tony Stark for himself, and Jack-Jack is still living with Helen and Bob at home.

Bob and Helen announce their plans to retire to their kids and pass the mantles onto them so that the movie can begin; all of that would probably be our first 20 mins or less.

This would probably result in a far more character driven film than the original was with the core conflict being the three siblings trying to act as a team rather than an external force trying to split them apart. Though, idk, should it have a villain? I could see some places to put one but there's already a good amount of conflict in here as it is.

I can think of some good scenes like Jack-Jack going to Bob for advice on his powers and having a good heartwarming moment there, or the climax being where they're all finally working together flawlessly in a final battle together because they know what improves each other's strengths and how to cover each other's weaknesses.

The first film was driven by "What is a Super?" with Bob thinking that a Super is the man with all the glory, while Syndrome has the idea that being a Super is about power, control, and dominance, while Dash thinks its fun games, and adventure. Violet and Helen have different ideas too, but you get the point. The second film should be driven by "What does it mean to be a Super?" does it mean living two lives like I propose the Violet's arc be about? Or being the Casanova that Dash thinks he's supposed to be?

The themes are about teamwork and identity; working as a team better by knowing yourself and knowing others. And I think those are all important ideals for the movie to portray. Maybe the end result is that Violet stops being a Super to do what makes her happy while Dash and Jack-Jack do the super heroing and only call her in when they really need her (Though...idk if that has Unfortunate Implications?)? Maybe Jack turns what he thinks is a hindrance of his power-changing into his strength?

It also could work as a contrast to the first film; the first was about a villain trying to split the family apart, the second would be about the family coming back together again as a team.

I also have this nagging idea that they could discuss the line between a hero and a super hero; What is a job for one and what is a job for the other? But, I don't think it fits in the identity them I have going.

I also have this absolutely AWESOME idea that the final battle is a massive Kaiju attack on the city and Bob and Helen and Frozone join in for the final battle and it could be AMAZING!!! :D

...Wow... I have way too much time on my hands... I need to find a job...

I'm a critical person but I'm a nice guy when you get to know me. Now, I should be writing.

As long as we're sharing, I whipped these tidbits up months ago.

So, I'm operating under the assumption that this movie takes place ten years after Incredibles 1. The big thing about Incredibles 1 was about appreciating what makes us special, and about the importance of family. Incredibles 2 needs to be about how things change. Change of interests, change of identity, change of culture.

Dash- He'd be in his teens, almost done with High School. He's at the stage in his life where young athletes come into their own, growing in bravado and ego. It's not a regression, because he doesn't want to show off like a child. He wants to be taken seriously, he wants to be a man. He wants his own costume, he wants his own name. He doesn't want to be Incredi-Lad. Perfect scene to set this up: Dash is hanging out with his buddies after school, girls swooning over him, he's on top of the world. Criminals drive past, he changes into costume and chases after them, and they're afraid. Not of him, but because "when Incredi-Lad shows up, his parents can't be far behind."

Violet- Violet would represent the change in desire. She's grown up, she's got her own costume, she's not Incredi-Lass, she's Ultra Violet. Her powers have grown, she's awesome. But she doesn't feel awesome. She feels...unfulfilled. She's been in the family business for ten years, it was a fun thing to do as a kid. But now that she's done with College, she thinks she might want...a normal job. Like a nurse, maybe. Again, not a regression of character, but a change.

Jack-Jack- Double J would be dealing with legacy. He grew up with the supers being welcomed back. Which means his parents get to be heroes again. Which means he now has to live in their enormous shadows. It's different from Dash and Violet, who grew up seeing their parents as normal people, who just happened to be heroes. But for Double J, all he's ever known is that his parents are the greatest heroes the world's ever known. And other heroes and the general public are not shy to let him know it when the family's out hero-ing. That's a lot of pressure to put on a ten-year old. Admittedly, I'm not sure what HIS change is...>_>

The Parents- Bob, Helen, Lucius and Edna represent the change of culture. They're background characters in the story. They're the old guard. They're dealing with how much the world has changed. The old age of heroes was pretty straightforward, people with metahuman genes. So we need to open the floodgates. Magicians, cyborgs, aliens, people without powers at all (which makes Bob understandably uncomfortable). People who made their own costumes, people whose powers include self-generating and repairing costumes. Their world has changed, and even though they're in the background, they still have to deal with how the world has passed them by.

So far all I know is that there would be a clothing designer. Young, tall, svelte. The Anti-Edna. She'd...not necessarily seduce, but definitely entice Dash by promising to help him be taken seriously and stand out on his own. She designs his personal costume, which would be green (a bit of Fridge Brilliance, 'cause green is usually a villain's color), and she also designs the costumes of a lot of the new, younger heroes. About halfway through the movie, she activates some chip that would cause all of the Supers wearing her costumes to fall under her control. Dash would attack his family, and then start running. And HE CAN'T STOP.

Oh, and the movie needs to open with bowling.

So Violet is dating this guy, his Supername is Trueno. He's lightning-themed, Latin American Superman, basically the number one Super in the world now that Bob is officially retired. He's supportive of Violet's desire to go into nursing, he hangs out with Jack-Jack and Dash, and he's one of the few guys who's Violet's dated that Bob hasn't thrown the car at. For all intents and purposes, he's a great guy.

But, it turns out, he's actually working with the costume gal for a two-phase global takeover scheme. Phase one: Gal's costumes mind-control most of the younger heroes, turning them into their soldiers, which leads into step two, weeding out the old heroes and all the new heroes who won't fall in line. And the reason he's been so supportive of Violet is so that she won't try to stop him.

She finds out, of course, and then we find out WHY he was trying to shove her out of the business: she's able to kick his ass, and the huge big fight of the movie isn't won by the parents, or the jock son, or the son with a billion powers, it's the quiet daughter who hid and made force fields.

I actually considered Violet having a boyfriend (a non-Super) and then PLOT!TWIST he's the bad guy! but it sounds so Cleche'. The Shallow Love Interest is the bad guy?

Though, I'd be up for a subversion where it sets you up to think he is and either he isn't and its a Red Herring or maybe it represents the kids constantly thinking they're in danger and dealing with the trust issues of having double lives?

If it wasn't for the fact that we know he's dead, Gamma Jack would've been a pretty cool hero-turned-villain big bad. Based on the backstory they gave him, he seems like he could've easily become less justified and much more megalomaniacal version of Magneto.

How about a story with Dash having a girl friend who turns out to be the bad guy?

But seriously, The Incredibles was mainly so good because it is not a story about Superheroes, but one about family...the sacrifices one has to made for it, but also the rewards of it. A sequel should at its core have a similar thoughtful topic. Perhaps the phase in which Bob and Helen are becoming old, and have to face the fact that it is time to step aside for the next generation...with Violet and Dash being the "big heroes" now, who don't really care how it was in the "good old days".
