Page image is poor quality, and of a woman looking at two tiny blue people for some reason. It means absolutely nothing without context; I assume the quote is meant to compensate for it, but it also makes no sense (unless, I'm guessing, if you have watched the actual scene/film).

"You sold your soul to me to save your boyfriend's life. And how does this creep thank you? By running off with some...babe."

[up]This appears to be more a JAFAAC rather than a poor image, actually. Even if we find a clearer image, it actually looks more like a Woman Scorned rather than this trope.

Vote to pull.

Previous threads. The old pic:

was pulled by Eddie at the start of the second thread, after the first thread had declared it to not be JAFAAC. The history on the page has moved enough that I can't find when the Megara pic was added. I think the Fruits Basket girl is a far superior pic, both for quality and for context, but if anyone's got other ideas, I'm open to them.

Took me a while to search for it, but it was added on the 8th of October by megankoumori according to the system revert history.

[up][up]Yeah, that's way better than the current. Throwing in an alternative suggestion, though:

I don't see much of it in any of the mentioned pics. Though I still find the current stronger than the other ones.

I suggested some cropped form of this one of Raven.

Nice pun on Broken Bird as the bonus.

There was these images from Megatokyo (Trope Namer)

Those are pretty decent, and a deliberate depiction of this metaphorical trope.

There are probably some other suggestions we can mine from the old threads.

[up][up] My complaints from the previous thread about 7.1 still stand. The second of those Mega Tokyo pics is good.

Regardless, what is consensus on pulling the current one?

My vote is to pull, mainly for quality issues.

I feel as though I'm taking a risk involving myself in this discussion, but here goes.

There are a number of facets to this character type, and finding 1 image which manages to display all of them is unlikely at best.

After reading through the other two threads as well as this one, it seems as though we have a dispute as to which facets are more important, need to be represented in the picture, or indeed are actually part of the character type.

The two main qualifiers seem to be: something in her past which affected her, to a very deep and permanent degree; and coping with said event by hiding her true emotions. The method of hiding varies, whether it be a mask of snarky cynicism, a stoic refusal to show any emotion, or covering with jerkassery and being extremely competent.

I agree that the Megara image should be pulled. Low quality, and poor illustration of the trope. I feel that either the Rin image or the Megatokyo one should be used. They seem to illustrate well enough, through implication of trauma and direct presentation of stoicism.

I don't see why you think anyone would bite your head off. That's very well thought out.

Agreed, that's a good summation. I can live with the Megatokyo pic.

[up] I would go for one of those. Here they are, for reference. I would go with the 1st or 3rd.

I like the first, though the both others are good too.

Ok, thanks. This is the first time I've involved myself in the community beyond adding a couple examples, so I wasn't quite sure how people would react. I spend quite a bit of time on 4chan, and it's made me... cautious.

That said, I think the 3rd Megatokyo pic would work best. What about a caption? I've got a few half-formed ideas, but I feel like I've run out of clay.

Did you upload the image in question before posting it?

[up][up] You probably just pasted the URL. It won't let you do that, since it uses another website's resources. Just surround it with brackets [[URL]], and it will link to it.

It's not a good idea to be literal unless the term is commonly known by about 99% of everyone. If it were not for TV Tropes, I would have no idea what the term Broken Bird meant. So, no to both in 22.
