Page Hijacked?

Greetings all,

there's been a misunderstanding about an article I wrote a ways back. Namely this one: [https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Webcomic/Wendy] It was accidentally put in the wrong namespace through no real fault of my own and subsequently moved by a user named movie007(it's complicated, I can explain how I was unfairly misled if you wish.)

I understand that this is standard procedure and I do not object to the articles' "relocation" nor do I seek to claim any sort of ownership or control over the page (this IS a wiki after all) I would just like it to be put on record somewhere that I did in fact write the original 103 trope page. Here is the history page of the misplaced original: [https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Main.Wendy]

I'm something of an authority on the webcomic in question and probably the only troper who has a complete copy of it, I actually have an ad for the trope page that I uploaded around the time it was released. http://www.deviantart.com/art/Wendy-Got-Trope-d-287505172

The page is actually in need of a few tweaks pending some recent developments, but I'd like to get this issue squared away first.

Who should I speak to about this issue?

Thank you for your time, -Mike the Reaper 86, Web Archivist Guild

There is no article ownership on TV Tropes. It's a community-sourced wiki, and anything contributed becomes a part of and property of the site.

Anyone may edit any article that is not locked or otherwise restricted, as long as they comply with our editing policies and rules. Putting a work article in the wrong namespace is a policy violation that may be corrected by moving it.

If your claim to be the sole possessor of the work in question is true, it would be impossible for anyone to independently verify that what you're writing about it is accurate. That creates something of a problem for us.

I'm not seeking ownership of the article (didn't I already say that?), I'm just clarifying that it's something I wrote. I think it turned out pretty well for my first (and only) contribution to TV Tropes so far. I'm just miffed that the records that I established the article in the first place were swept under the rug on a technicality. I don't want a medal, but a pat on the back would be nice.

When I was writing up the page I was VERY concerned about the namespace, so I got the bright idea to check the tropes page of another Webcomic by the same author and just copy that ones' namespace and substitute the new title (That's actually kinda brilliant). Seeing as THAT page had existed for AT LEAST two years, I (wrongly) assumed it was in the correct namespace. But as you can see, that one was also misplaced and moved around the same time as mine.

The article's present location: [https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Webcomic/Girly] The article's previous location: [https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Main.Girly&more=t]

Had the article I was referencing been moved when it was supposed to be, I never would have made the same mistake myself two whole years later. It simply would not have been possible. I did put the page in the wrong namespace, but I don't feel I can really be blamed for it. I was merely misled by a dozen other people who somehow didn't notice that the other page was in the wrong place for two whole years! In a case like this, I object to the term "policy violation", let's just call this one an "honest mistake."

As for the webcomic in question, it has been sporadically available on the internet for years. I wrote the page to celebrate its reinstatement back in 2012, but it seems to have been taken offline again. Luckily I saved a copy, I can provide verification in the form of the original comics if there is ever any dispute. I can't guarantee that nobody else in the world has a copy, and I'm pretty sure those who did read the comic in its heyday would say something if I was making stuff up. I'm passionate about preserving this comic and I certainly wouldn't lie to you people about it.

By all means enjoy my page and work the wiki magic. But don't forget who started it for you.wink

Hope you understand where I'm coming from now, -Mike

If you want to claim credit for creating a page, click on your troper name, and it will take you to your troper page, which you can edit it to list what pages you created or had a hand in editing. (You can click my name to see the list of pages I've made or worked on, to get an idea.)

Outside of that, TV Tropes does not credit anyone for page creation officially. Eventually, the page histories will be cleaned out, so unless you do this yourself, no one will be able to know you made those pages.

Oh! Well that actually makes me feel better about it. What the heck was I worried about? [lol]

Thanks for clearing that up, Totemic Hero.

I'll figure out how to edit my troper page then. I may even model it after yours as tribute.
