Just bought 4 a few days ago when it's 75% off from Gamers Gate...now is going to study the manual.
Give me cute or give me...something?The manual's got a tutorial in it (which was a godsend, I was B Sing my way through 3's demo when I first got it.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.I'm still on nr. 3, trying to get a feel on how things work. Anyone know how to make use of air magic? It has good battle spells, but when I'm sitting on a bunch of air gems I have no idea what to do with them.
I have played third and fourth games
The question about the air gems came from an arco test game against the AI where I had trouble putting my air gem income to use, but I think I found the answer on my own. In the early game at least I should be using the air gems to make owl quills for more research. And probably summoning a few amphiteres. The owl quills plus arcos good researchers means I should probably take drain 1 and spend the points on something to help with arcos weak early game. EA arco has pretty crap troops.

Bumping this thread, in case a few people might still be interested in talking about it.
Just got Dominions 4 a few weeks back myself. The sheer amount of stuff that's in this game is a bit overwhelming, but I'm slowly muddling through, picking up things here and there. The tutorial, the manual (I actually ordered a printed copy ) and these two guides have been most helpful, but I'm still in the process of getting a feel for the different nations and how they play.
Speaking of which, I'm absolutely fascinated by all the lore each nation has. I've been digging through it in order to update the character page, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how much care they took to take inspiration from cultures beyond just the standard fantasy mold.
Incidentally, the latest patch seems to have added an entirely new faction, though I haven't had time to play around with it any.
Yeah, apparently they've got units that need to be recruited in provinces with extremes of each temperature.
I myself have plenty of fun playing it on the bigger maps, even though eventually we get to a stalemate that makes me quit out of boredom.

Anyone else play these games? I bought number 4 on Steam a few months ago and it's entertaining, if difficult.
