When you just can't get into the mood for the holidays

At the risk of this thread getting locked, i have a problem that has been plaguing me for quite some time now; i just can't get into the mood for a holiday completely.

Most of the time, it's because, every time i try, my mind always trails off and makes me think about things that either exclude and/or look down upon the aspects that i value and/or recognize about said holiday. But other times, it's because there never seems to be enough time for holiday mood setting and other things.

Take now for instance, at the time i post this, it will be the day before Chinese New Year. Granted, i'm not Chinese and don't usually celebrate their traditions, but the aspect of the Chinese zodiac just interests me. Also, it feels like i really should acknowledge this Chinese New Year, seeing as it's my Zodiac sign that is being honored this year; the Year of the Horse.

Now, one would think that getting into the mood for this celebration would be easy, seeing as it lasts 15 days. But in addition to my mind blocking me at almost every turn (worst of all, with memories of a tv show about the Chinese Zodiac, which i was sort of on the fence about; it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't all that good either, at least not to me), there's also the matter of having enough time to get into the mood for Valentine's day, Presidents' Day (i was going to watch animated biographies about Washington and Lincoln) and even more significant to me, Black History month. If i take full advantage of the Chinese New Year time frame, i'll have very little time left to get into the mood for Black History Month and even less time to get into the mood for Valentine's day and Presidents' day (the former of last two being the day when Chinese New Year ends).

And, to top it all off, i'm not even sure how to get into the mood for Chinese New Year, the most i can think of is to watch the Chinese New Year episodes of three shows i like, but none of them seemed like my cup of tea. At this point, all i can think of is to look at the Chinese Zodiac wheel and read the information about my own Zodiac sign, that's pretty pathetic.

This will likely be a problem in March as well, when i'm trying to balance St. Patrick's Day with Mardi Gras.

Has anyone else ever felt like this? Or have any advice on the matter?
