Fate/Serapeum's Experiment

Serapeum.

A secret society found within the hidden world of mages, founded only three years ago headed by an enigmatic figure called the Head Librarian. An anonymous group whose number of members is unknown who nevertheless have changed the status quo by submitting numerous papers and research to the Mage's Association. Sudden discoveries in research which was thought to be a dead end and heavy critique and revelations about professors teaching in the Clock Tower, Atlas and the Sea of Estray.

And now, they have created an event which drew the eye of mages the world around. A new Greater Grail was created. Heaven's Feel Invoked. A summoning of the Throne of Heroes. A Holy Grail War. Mere hours after the shocks of such an event resonated through the entire magical world letters from Serapeum delivered all around the campus of these magical institutions claimed responsibility for the event.

The brazen, anonymous association then had the gal to request the collaboration of mages all around the world in order to conduct research into the nature of Akasha and to bring about a miracle into the modern era. Serapeum promises to award the completed Grail to the winner of the war, though they kindly ask for those who wish to harm the world or humanity to abstain from participating in this research affair.

The location of the War? The unremarkable city of Glindburg in Germany where inside an abandoned Cathedral stands a single old knight protecting the vessel of the Grail... and the secrets of this mysterious ritual and its shadowy creators.

Hello, hello! Been a little while since I made a Fate RP so here is another attempt at it. However, this game will have some different rules from the usual.

Number one and most common lately, no limit on the number of Servants. We'll accept characters for as long as people want them.

Number two, there are no classes. The vessels for the Servants are not organized by the Fuyuki system to harbor seven specific kinds of Servants, thus giving them predetermined stats and skills to a certain extend. The classes however, are somewhat unbalanced with the Saber class often being granted high stats AND powerful N Ps. Now, there are no classes, with the heroes having all the skills they had in life and not gaining any additional skills due to their class.

Number three, character sheets are secret. The sheets will be sent to me via Private Message for judgement, adjustments and the like. The only thing visible to all players in the signup thread will be a small description which is basically what people will see when they meet the character in person. This includes their appearance, a picture if desired and the air they cast off, their attitude and all that one may be able to infer from the Servant or Master on first appearances. The Servants may still use titles to hide their true names and still be referred by those around them. These titles are unique to each character and may be, for example "The Silver Knight" "The Archer in Red" "The Holy Maiden" or any like them. You may reserve a specific hero by writing to me before you do a sheet for a Hero only to find out someone else is already playing them in secret. Do know however, that I will be playing many heroes so not every denied hero will be one that the others will be playing... and likewise, asking for a great number of heroes just to try to guess at the identity of others will be penalized. I can't control what information my players give outside of the game, but I'd like everyone to collaborate to keep the game intriguing with information gathering ending up being more important than in other games.

Number four, Gods and Beasts are allowed as well as anti heroes. However, given the limitations of the all purpose vessels prepared for this ritual, a God, Demon or Legendary Beast is powered down to the level of a Hero. They retain their artifacts, their purviews and characteristics, but their powers are scaled down to those of a Hero.

Number five, if you want to use a Nasuverse canon Servant, you are free to do so. However, if you want to make a male Arthur, a snake lady Medusa or otherwise make your own version of a hero that already has a canon incarnation, that's perfectly fine.

Number six, I will be a damn pain with the sheets. In this case, I mean mostly the ranks. Don't take the canon servant stats as a guideline because I will turn that back. Servants in general will only have one stat in the Rank A. The aspect they are most overwhelmingly good at. That doesn't mean the rest will be Bs, though, not at all. I want players to really think about what things their servant excels at and honestly rank accordingly. To compensate, I will allow more Noble Phantasms and utility skills than usual. These should also be ranked with discretion, but as for their effects and utility, I will be more lax with it. This is a war of information, deceit and tricks, thus having a lot of tools to help move around, gather information, craft helpful items, perceive information from foes and over all useful things and aces under your sleeve are good to have.

For pairing up Servants and Masters... well, you'll have to go based on the description blurbs and titles given here. It's not ideal, certainly, but then again, in the Grail War the Masters usually don't know what kind of Servant they will end up with. At least by knowing how they look and their general attitude, you can judge if that's the kind of character that seems interesting for you to play with.

Rules to the RP are to come soon, though it is a given that I ask you all not to say in the Signup or discussion and such who your character is and to try and keep the information under wraps until it is revealed IC. Then again, if you character is like Iskandar from Fate/Zero and they will reveal who they are to all winds first thing in the RP... well, your reveal will come soon enough.

—-Warrior Clad in Bone—-

This blond woman stands before you clad in armor made from the bones of monsters. She appears arrogant, but from her combat ready yet regal stance, perhaps she has the skill to back it up. She has a condescending smile on her face as if she sees you as nothing more than an insect she has happened to glance at, however this does nothing to make her less beautiful, she is as beautiful as the ocean is deep and people would beg just to look upon her. She holds a short dagger that also looks carved from bone and a set of tablets that are marked in a script you find hard to read.

The Proxy

This Master seems to operate entirely indirectly; either he's that skittish, or he's actually incapable of operating on this war in person. The Servant he commands seems to just be led around by a large Australian Sheepdog, a big friendly brown dog with a leash dangling from his collar. The collar itself is certainly magical, no doubt about it, but the dog has no more magic than you'd expect from background radiation from being around a Mage for so long. Poor thing's probably just following orders.

The Maimed Servant

This Servant is clearly from... somewhere in Europe, dressed in period-appropriate armor. His features are cherubic and youthful, but he also possesses a full beard. He is tall and gangly, and is missing a right hand. An inappropriately insouciant and casual smile plays over his lips.

Tentative interest, but then what happens if two servants who know each other back when they were alive meet each other? Are their appearances obscured by the Grail, or are they told somehow whom they had just met?

In such a case, I will reveal the identity to both players. It is knowledge that they should have after all.

Alright, haven't done any RP'ing in a while, so let's see what I can pull together.

The Swordsmaster

A dark-haired woman wearing a red and white kimono stands before you. She holds a simple, slightly bent wooden sword. Her face is completely serene, and her stance is completely natural, yet there's an aura of battles around her.

The Old Master

He is clearly quite old with a large white beard and hair yet with a strong body and iron gaze. He is clad in light armour and a red coat with white pants and he holds a large book.

Alrighty! We're getting a lot of good Servants but so far only one Master. Masters wanted! Keep going on the Servants, of course, but do have in mind we are needing Masters. I shall be making one soon to be available for pairing off with someone.

I can try to guide you through it, though I do admit it's a bit heavy in terms of lore and mechanics though.

Yeah, think i'll pass. shoot, and i was gonna try and use Tesla too. Oh well.

One question. How should we rank noble phantasms.

Same as ranks on abilities. Just because it's your Servants strongest NP it doesn't mean it ought to be A rank. A+ rank I'll need a very good justification. Don't be afraid to rate your NP lowly, be honest about the strength of its power.

In building character sheets, what's the ruling on including class skills? Encouraged to stay away, no restrictions?
