As the sun set and made way for another evening in the City of Rail, a lone television in a store window was tuned to the eight-o'clock news, airing a repeat of a speech by the President of the United States.

"My fellow Americans," President Tron Paul addressed the cameras in White House Press Room. "I am pleased to say that the situation in Rail is being handled by our brave men and women in the National Guard. Let no American doubt that I am absolutely committed to ensuring their safety."

"Mister President, how do you respond to allegations that the media focus on the Rail Quarantine is a smokescreen for the escalating situation in Gurbenia?"

"To that I say, thank you for bringing up the subject of Rail. Why, just today, Gorillawatt was captured and returned to Blackstone Supermax, where he can no longer harm society, and can receive the rehabilitation he needs to undo the damage society has done to him. All thanks to the hard work of red-blooded American patriots in the name of the greater good. This reminds me of a story my father told me when I was a boy...."

Rail Dale v45 stood on stage in the middle of the enormous Rail City Arena, and gave the closing statement to his speech. "This city will prove that it is not afraid, that our gem auction will not be canceled out of fear." The robotic mayor pointed at the display case holding the million-dollar main attraction of the auction/concert - the Sapphire Seal. The blue gemstone was shaped like the aquatic animal, could fit in a child's hand, and valued at nearly three-and-a-quarter million dollars. The reports of dark vortexes of even darker magics contained within were likely exaggerated.

To provide optimal protection, the small contingent of highly-dedicated security officers equipped with batons and whistles were stationed dozens of rows away to ensure maximum visibility of the fragile glass display case.

"Thank you," Rail Dale concluded. "Now please enjoy the smooth instrumentation of Santana."

The mayor disappeared from via the stage elevator, and headed towards his seat in the front row, while the band began to play one of their hits, Into The Night.

Rail City Arena

Otto Manford, in his cunning disguise of a hairy Mexican, sat in the stadium. He was here to purchase the Sapphire Seal, so that he could destroy it. No statue to those heinous seals would exist in this city, not while he was exiled there!

He sat, with all the money he had gotten from selling the different parts of his space ship sitting in his pocket, wondering why he had decided to wear his Mobi-Suit tonight. It was chaffing horribly.

Rha walked at a leisurely pace through the exhibits, carefully noting the locations of guards and security cameras as he waited for the new exhibit to officially open. His client wanted a tentative plan on how to break in and was paying good money for it. He stopped by a display case holding an Ancient Greek helm, Corinthian style if he wasn't mistaken. He also noted what other people had come for the event, to his surprise he could pick out several of the city's superhuman element.

Abandoned Church

On the outskirts of Rail stood an old church, not too far off from a cemetery of medium size. It wasn't a place visited by many nowadays except the few individuals who lived nearby and those only sought to pay respects to their family members buried in a grave nearby. Perhaps a month or two ago the site had been the focus of a small police investigation but the culprit had long since been caught.

Said culprit was now back and was seeking to fix a particular problem - freeing himself from his binds. To do this, he turned to - in broad daylight, unfortunately for him - the man he'd seen only a couple times prior, who chose to camp out in the church itself.

Anubis, bound in a black straight jacket with a white 88 plastered on the back only halfway covered by a long unkempt mop of steely black hair, stood in front of the church door wondering if this was a stupid idea or not. For all he knew, the guy wasn't even here anymore.

"... Hello?"

He knocked on the door with his forehead in case that'd help him out.

"Hey dude, you in there? ... Whoever you are? I could use a little help..."

He knocks again a little louder, giving a glance to the path leading to the church, then back towards the clearing. Please be home...

Daniel patrolled the halls of the museum, hoping something of interest might happen today to help break the monotony of his shift. Being able to see all the exhibits of the museum for free was a pleasant bonus to working security which tended to be uneventful on most days, but with the Blackstone breakout and the Relic exhibit security was beefed up. Security was armed lightly despite the importance of keeping the Relics secure, most carried just batons while a few senior members had pistols. Daniel decided to make his way to the Relics to check out what all the hype was about and to see if his boss had anything that she wanted him doing.

A little ways down the road, from the abandoned church

A small group of figures trudged down the deserted street, as true night settled over the city. Among the group were six figures, all wearing hoodies and bandanas. They could have been mistaken for a simple gang, trolling the streets, but for the shovels and crowbars they carried, they're jerky, unsteady movements, and the heavy stink of embalming fluid that wafted amongst the group. At the front, a hulking figure lead the group, with smooth, easy steps; easily eight foot tall, despite his or her hunched stance, it rippled with muscle, with arms as think around as telephone poles. In this humanoid behemoth's arms reclined a cloaked figure, leaning back into the protection offered by her servant.

"Head just past the old church up ahead, it'll be up on the left." Doctor Dead's muffled voice quietly noted to the group. While the hulking figure carrying her gave no response, several of the hooded figures behind her moaned and gasped out in acknowledgement.

Letting out a loud sigh, she held up her hand and signaled for her transport to stop and turn around to the group behind her. Touching her head in mild annoyance "Okay...you don't need to confirm orders from me, like that. I know you will obey. No moaning, no gasping, or anything else. You don't even need to use your lungs, unless I say otherwise, alright? So just do as you're told without all the noise, got it?"

Evidently, this had become a recurring issue.

Five of the hooded figures just stood idly in front of their master, as she finished her short rant, apparently comprehending the order. The one that happened to be carrying the shovels though, again loosed a slow, quiet moan as it received this latest set of orders.

Glaring down at the particularly dull-witted servant, she just shook her head in annoyance, before signalling for her larger servant to continue leading the train of zombies down the quiet street.

Pulling a magazine, from a shoulder bag and sparking a small ball of glowing light into existence, she leaned back into her servants arms "I swear, I'm gonna start removing their voiceboxes during prep..." She quietly grumbled to herself, before glancing up to her servant "Stop when we reach the cemetery."

And so the pack of zombies continued to trudge after their master, as she perused this month's article on 'Common household applications of the Dark Arts'.

Lots of guards on duty now. More than I remembered. Makes sense, with this new exhibit opening. Anders Andersson sat on a bench in one of the portrait galleries, typing idly into his smartphone. He glanced up at one of the portraits - a truly ugly thing purporting to be a painting of some noteworthy investor in Rail City's early years. He couldn't care less, but as long as he looked like a college student taking notes... I don't know if there's anything worth looking into in there, but I'm going to anyway. I'd let you handle this if I thought you'd actually pay attention to the artifacts. The new section was about to be opened, probably; maybe it was time to meander down to the foyer and get into line.

It's been fun.

Rail City Highway I-70

The sound of busy beeps and honks polluted the air on Highway I-70. Just like every other day, the road was filled with cars carrying their drivers to their destinations, and just like every other day, the blockade of traffic drove the drivers in their automobiles to steaming fury. Horns were honked, words were exchanged, and birds were flipped.

Sitting on the railings along the road, a lone man observed the chaotic scene with a smile on his face. In his left hand was a half-eaten burger, and he brought it up to his mouth to take another bite. For a while, that was all he did. Sitting, eating, watching.

Finally, he finished the burger, and crumbling up the wrapper into a ball, he tossed it onto the ground. Wiping a bit of ketchup off of his face, he walked straight into the middle of the road. There was no danger, as the cars were barely moving, but drivers were bewildered. Many honked their horns, which prompted others to honk theirs, an endless chain reaction.

The man stood there and looked around him. Surrounded by cars, his smile only grew wider. He lifted both his arms, and suddenly, four cars around him lifted off the ground. As if a switch was turned off, all the honking stopped, and they were replaced with terrified screams. The drivers in the lifted cars tried their engines, and abandoned their cars when they saw it fail. Many drivers who were on the ground did the same, yet some stayed in their cars, watching in awe as the man howled with laughter at the terrified masses.

"Throttle has returned," The man shouted at the top of his lungs. "and he'll make sure this time that the entire city is sent to the scrap heap!"

Rail City Museum-Third Floor Apartment

Tiger Carter was watching the President's speech on the living room television, already formally dressed for the opening exhibit downstairs. As usual, her dress managed to cover both her arm and legs. It wouldn't be very polite to show off any "tattoos" at the event. Tiger always watched the updates on Rail City's lock down, wanting to know the details on how many villains were left running loose. The sooner they were captured, the easier it would be to continue her research without being constantly interrupted by things that forced her alter ego's attention.

"Tiger, you ready yet?" Dr. Ace Carter emerged from the hallway in a black suit, adjusting his tie. "We're going to be opening in 20 minutes."

"Ah, right..." she said, standing up and turning the TV off. "Father, are you sure this is a good idea? I mean...there just so much crime recently, and we're kind of painting a big target and all."

"Don't worry so much, I'm one step ahead of you!" Dr. Carter said. "I'm sure Mr. Blake and the rest of the security team will be enough." Tiger sighed.

"If you say so..."

"Oh, and would you mind checking if Miss Masters is ready? I think I forgot to give her the official information on the exhibit. She's only got the old draft we made earlier. There's a copy of it in my officer. Thanks dear, I'll meet you downstairs!" He exited the apartment, the sound of him heading to the lower floors audible. After getting the paperwork, Tiger followed him, hoping nothing would happen tonight. And if it did, well...she had placed the Golden Disk in one of the first floor offices only she had access to.

Rail City Museum-First Floor

A large banner hung off the roof of the Rail City History Museum, proudly announcing the Helena's Nails Collection to anyone walking around outside.

The museum was fairly packed, people hanging around the exhibits as they waited for the doors to open. Each of the doors was manned by a member of the museum staff, ensuring that no one would unauthorized would get in before they were ready. Security officers were at the main entrances themselves as well, a few more than usual as Dr. Carter had hired some extra just to be safe. There were even some walking the halls of the first and second floors, the third and fourth not needing the protection.

Inside the show room, long tables were being set up with food by the caterer for the event, The Flying Suplex. Some more workers were making sure the artifacts were set up correctly, double checking the glass cases and stands. The entire display was currently hid behind a red curtain. While her father discussed some more details with the staff, Tiger slipped out the doors into the main part of the museum, a short stack of papers in her hand as she looked for Jessica in the crowd. She should at least be back at the museum by now...

Streets of Rail

It was the beginning of a regular evening of patrol for Duo, as he rode atop Haste, zooming around town with the clone's head sticking up from his back on the lookout. It was slow night so far as he talked to his mother in the Central.

"Everything good up there?"

"I would suppose so, nice, easy night, wish more were like this"

"its still young, might shift gears any second, especially with the thing at the arena today"

"I know, I know..." He turned to go down on I-70 "Hell, why pretend to ignore the fact that even on the easier of nights I have to stop more than a dozen imbeciles trying to take advantage of our lovely city" he stops held back by the traffic jam "and time and time again they find themselves in the cold ground of a prision cell."

"heh, glad you're thinking like that, you know back then when you-"

"hold on" he said, the head coming back into his body as he looked up to see the cars lift up "something going on" he unmounted Haste and removed his helmet and left it on the seat of the bike.

"What?"

"Throttle" he spoke into the earpiece "I'll keep you posted" He said going off towards the blond villain. "A scrap heap! I'm afraid that cannot be permitted" He said standing attop a van staring down on to the man responsible for the floating cars.

"Oh yeah? What are you going to do about it?" Throttle asked with a laugh. "On a highway like this, the only thing you'll be able to do is cower as I run you over!"

Throttle dropped the cars he picked up, and they hit the other cars with a CLANK. Car alarms went off on impact, but Throttle didn't seem to notice. He held out his arm toward Duo, and suddenly the van he was standing atop off lifted up off the ground.

Vigil viewed the sun set through several thousand electronic eyes as she continued her watch over Rail City. The artificial intelligence took a moment to admire the sight, while the majority of her processing powers were dedicated to monitoring the city she called her home.

Some more of her many eyes resided in the Rail City Museum and the Arena. Vigil had assigned a portion of her attention to monitoring both the exhibit and the auction through each building's CCTV cameras - in this city, such a prominent event had a higher-then-average chance of attracting unwanted attention.

Her traffic cameras picked up the horrific jam on the I-07, and she would have filed it away as the usual evening traffic and passed it off to a sub-routine... if it weren't for the sudden flury of activity in the middle of the road.

Cross-referencing displayed powers, facial recognition, codename with Blackstone databases... ID complete. Throttle. I've been wondering when you were going to poke you head up again.

It looked like there were already heroes on the scene - She caught Duo on some of her cameras. Vigil launched the Watchdog from one of its hidden kennels and set it on a course to help.

Rail City Streets, approaching the I-07

The Watchdog loped through the evening streets, the big mechanical dog weaving through the traffic as Vigil piloted it towards the scene of Throttle's rampage. As it reached the tail end of the jam, it leaped up and over the stalled cars, finding clear spots to land without causing too much collateral damage. Duo would be able to see it approaching from the opposite direction, prowling slowly forwards. His earpiece crackled, a second caller requesting a connection.

"Heya Duo. Mind if I help out?" Vigil's voice had a warbling quality that made it sound synthetic or over-masked, but her accent was clear enough. ''I'll play support - I didn't have the Watchdog when Throttle was caught last time, so I'm not sure how his powers will affect it - oh, shit."

Throttle had struck out at Duo. Watchdog responded fast, angling some of its weapons at the villain and firing a pair of tazer rounds.

He felt the van shaking and lifting below him so he kicked off and landed rolling on the top of another car. It was then when he saw the mechanical dog approach and with a smile on his masked face he responds, bringing an arm to his ear "Miss Vigil, great to see you, yes, some help would be appreciated" as the other reaches into the pouch on his bag, forming the clone's hands along his own and retrieves a couple of knives. He then proceeds to launch them at Throttle. "We need to close the distance between him and us"

Out of the corner of his eye, Throttle saw a large mechanical creature arrive at the scene. His eyes widened at sight of the giant beast. "What the hell is that thing?"

Seeing the beast launch what appeared to be tasers at him, Throttle reached out with his left hand and a car slid between him the tasers' path. He then heard the sound of feet hitting the ground and saw Duo as well, pulling out knives. He reached out with his right hand to grab another car when the car that blocked the tasers exploded.

Throttle was sent flying from the impact. He felt his back bounce off an SUV, and he hit the ground in a daze.

Jessica A. Masters stared at her hand mirror, adjusting her shirt over and over again, sometimes pulling it down a little, then pulling it back up, zipping up the jacket, then unzipping it, all with a very worried look on her face as she tried to get the perfect look. Luckily, no one would interrupt her- she was in one of the exhibits of the museum, and there was only one or two people wandering around, what with everyone focused on the new exhibit. Yes, all alone—

"If you're wondering, I predict that your breasts, like, grew just a bit thanks to your exposure to us." An old man's voice said, prompting Jessica to sigh as she looked around.

"Adam, shut up." She told one of the scientists in her head. "And this isn't about my body, it's about these clothes. I look like I just came out of the streets."

"You always look like that, honey." Silvana, the Latino physicist said. "I don't need to be a physicist to say this, but... your clothes suck."

"Silvana, if I needed fashion advice, I'd ask Alberta—"

"No, you'd ask Silvana." Alberta said, interrupting Jessica. "I have no interest in such frivolous matters like clothes."

"Of course she'd say that." Adam chuckled. "Alberta, you're, like, a major buzzkill."

"Yes, according to you and your disappointing work ideals."

"Guys, can we not... fight... please?" A child's voice said, trying to interrupt the others.

"It's best to just stay behind and let the two duke it out, Phillip." Silvana advised, as Adam and Alberta started having a discussion. Usually, Jessica would just walk away from such an unruly group. The problem was that this unruly group was on her head, the result of a robot having grafted itself onto her spine and allowed her to talk to and hear the conciousness of scientists... from the future.

"Adam, Alberta, shut up." Jessica said as she pocketed her hand mirror, grabbing the schedule of that day's event. "I'm trying to focus on doing a good job, so if I hear even one peep coming from you two, I swear, I'll make you guys suffer so much, you'll wish you stayed back at your lab!" There was a silence, followed by a hum from Alberta confirming that they had understood their host's threat. And also because Jessica had just yelled at the air, which might have attracted some unwanted attention to her...

On the opposite side of the museum, in the middle of all that crowd, a blonde man talked to a crowd of reporters, a smug smile on his face. "Sponsoring the museum's new exhibit was a logical choice." Sharik Shadid said, hands in his pockets as the reporters scribbled down every word that came out of his mouth. "If we want today's kids to stop being good-for-nothing deadbeats, we need to give them a reason to come to the museum, which will feed the desire for knowledge every human has. Of course, just sponsoring a new exhibit wouldn't be enough- after all, our world is filled with so much wonderful technology, that not using it is the same as reserving your place in a museum... as an exhibit, that is."

After the reporters chuckled and laughed, Sharik took a smartphone out of his pockets. "That's why Sharik Tech has been working with the Rail City Museum to develop an application that allows its users the chance to participate in a virtual treasure hunt, where the clues are spread around the exhibit. We hope this will give kids that extra incentive to get out of their computers and into a museum, so they can contribute to society in the future. The application will be released tomorrow, so for now, why don't we all just enjoy the exhibit? I'll be taking your questions later."

Rail City Arena, Box B-17

Friendly reminder that I OWN ALL OF RAIL'S LAND (ʘ‿ʘ✿). Come meet your queen in box b-17 (◡‿◡✿).

"Annnd... send." Queen Quetzal published her tumblr's very first post, informing everyone that she had claimed her rightful spot in the box seats of the theater. The two men that used to own the room bled out from the bundles of feathers in their necks, pinned to the wall of the box.

Resplendent in the latest in fashion and with recently(forcefully) highlighted hair, she lounged and sipped at a large cup of coke as she watched this... event. She realized that she really wanted that seal, but that other people also wanted it. She'd wait either for someone to bring it out of this monument to American Imperialism, or for a Super to come up here and confront her about what they deemed theft.

Rail City Museum

Don't Axe Don't Tell crept along the rafters of the museum, sticking to shadows and remaining entirely silent with the aid of his silence powers. Being quiet, and essentially deafening himself in the process, gave him a lot of time to think about this museum. Like how it was frustratingly expensive to get in, and that it was basically asking supervillains to come after them. Maybe he could ask the curator to lower the ticket price in exchange for saving it? In any case, the masked hero drew his axes and waited up in the ceiling, ready to blast the first thief he saw with a thirty minute motorcycle ride's worth of sound.

Levi Solomon stumbled through the hallway as several people glanced at him. Perhaps they had understood the greatness that was the God of Light, for some had stepped aside to show him the way. He would have stopped to give them his blessings, but now was not the time for such things.

Levi had come to carry out the will of the God of Light.

The people who ran this establishment were ignorant for showing those things to public eyes. Levi had been negligent in allowing these events to come to pass.

What in the name of mustersauce were those things called?

Without the holy book, Levi would never be able to remember the names of those enchanted artifacts. It was said that these once holy objects had passed through the hands of Napoleon Bonaparte and Adolf Hitler, both of whom were Archfiends who served Leonardo the Heretic. As such, they had been tainted by his blasphemous essence. As Leonardo had been responsible for such things like Socialism and Battlefield Earth, Levi didn't want to think about what would happen if his influence were allowed to spread further.

He would have to destroy them. But could such objects be destroyed by mortal means? He would probably need help from someone who wasn't restricted to a crossbow and a handgun.

What if the Heretics were to strike now? Without his weapons, Levi could not enact the God of Light's judgment. All he had was a ballpoint pen, his old wallet, and a cheap notebook.

After a minute, Levi Solomon had reached the back of the museum, where a much larger crowd had gathered. There were no signs that the Heretic of Falsehood was at work here, but that only meant Levi hadn't been vigilant enough.

At the same time, a faint but wondrous aroma flowed through him.

"THE GOD OF LIGHT BE PRAISED!" said Levi as he charged toward one of the masked, tuxedo-wearing men carrying a tray of spicy Mexican dishes.

Vigil felt a twinge of dismay as the car her tazers had hit exploded. That shouldn't have happened... must have been a lucky shot. Concerned that Throttle had been injured in the blast, she moved the Watchdog closer, weaving around the stalled cars and trucks.

"Is he alive?" She asked Duo over the radio, approaching to hem Throttle in. She was still cautious, however, as she had no idea of the big robot would be susceptible to the man's power.

Meanwhile, every computer screen, GPS navigator and smart phone within three blocks of the fight were displaying a flashing red sign and a buzzing tone. WARNING: SUPER FIGHT IN PROGRESS. STAY INDOORS.
