The best way to stop a troll is to ignore him completely if possible. An ignore user feature that blocks a user's posts from sight helps with this process immensely. It's probably the only thing the Gamefaqs moderators got right, so why not follow suit?

The moderators have such features already - they are called "thumping" and "troll post crusher".

An user-based function in my mind would be a bad idea:

  1. People liable to respond to trolls (i.e taking the bait) probably will still do so.
  2. It might be used to block users one doesn't like, which seems a tad discourteous to me.

  1. Those who perpetually do so, particularly to the exclusion of all else, can also be added to the proposed ignore list.
  2. So? If the person doing the blocking doesn't say anything, how is it any different than simply ignoring the relevant poster and skipping to the next message?

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Fast Eddie looked at it and said "too much work", and wouldn't be heartbroken if he did, but I think it could be a useful tool.

People have used Extensions in the past to Ignore Others. This was considered Dickish due to the fact it was an attempt to drive out people you don't like.

It never was used against "trolls" or whatever. It's not a good feature whatsoever.

...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.

Hmmm. Then is there another way to report a specific user, and not just posts?

Ask The Tropers and Hollering works best.

You can also PM one of the Staff if necessary.

You can also send a holler saying "This post, while not necessarily that bad in itself, is an example of a pattern of behaviour for this user. See these links for more examples. Can you do something about them?"

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

I have no idea who the moderators are, so I can't contact them at this point.

Users desiring to ignore other users is a sign of a problem that needs to be addressed, not something that should be shoved under the rug with a tool.

[up] Know the Staff. Easiest thing to do is send a Holler, though. We all see it.

Does "Holler" pretty much mean use the triangle warning icon that sends a complaint to the moderators about a certain post? Or is it something else?

The old ignore script that I know of appears to have had its functionality broken since I had last checked, by the way, so no use in looking for it. Kind of a shame, because the button it put to collapse posts was handy, but meh, more trouble than it's worth.
