Not a rule. Having too much text can be a drawback, but it's not forbidden or anything. Keep.

- Wall of Text. If the image is nothing but a paragraph of text with a character drawn so that there's somewhere to stick a Speech Bubble, it's not a great image ... but it might make a good quote though.
(third bullet point).
Of course, I could be missing something.

"Read it again"? Heh.
Yeah. "Things to avoid" and "against the rules" are way different.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.By that logic, Just A Face And A Caption is not against the rules as well:
- Just a Face and a Caption: The visual equivalent of a Zero-Context Example. Most of the time, they only make sense if you're already familiar with the work and the trope. Read the link for more details about why this is a bad idea.
The wording here of "Things to avoid" seems to be causing confusion between us, so I don't know which one of us is right.
And if you agree with "things to avoid", I'm still confused what you mean that that and "against the rules" are different.

That is correct: JAFAAC is not against any rules. It is something to avoid, and a more serious criticism than "too much text".
I am not confused, "things to avoid" means "things to avoid", there is an important distinction between guidelines and rules. There are relatively few rules, and they are about objective things, like "no demotivators" or "no watermarked images". Guidelines are about subjective things, like "how well it communicates the right message" or "how cool it looks".

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Okay, if you think me considering the guidelines as rules is wrong, then perhaps I won't call it against the rules in the future.note
Can we please get back to discussing the picture now, please?

Unless there's an actual suggestion of an improved image, I'm not sure there's anything to discuss. This one's not pullable.
Check out my fanfiction!Seems good to me.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt's an improvement.
Check out my fanfiction!I don't see it, it's 2013 and you don't have to be a geek to be into computers any more...
I dislike both the suggestion and current.
For the record, I agree with the current being over-texty. That said, rodney is right in that most of what governs IP are guidelines and not rules. Off the top of my head, the only hard and fast rules about images are the insta-pull reasons.
The suggestion is alright (definitely an improvement over the current) but I'm not crazy about it either.
Well, I'm not too crazy about the suggestion, but I suppose it's an improvement. At least I don't have to read through the walls of text to get what the image is supposed to be illustrating
Possible objection to the current: can a person be a "closeted" geek if they look stereotypically geeky?
The current has way too much text and not enough illustration of the concept. Pull.
The suggestion, I know it's not that great of an image, but it's the best I could come up with at the moment.
Wonkyth, I understand what you say. I just made a mistaken assumption that those are rules that should be enforced, rather than guidelines.

I'm fine with the suggestion.
Pinball cleanup threadClock is set.
Isn't this enough for a consensus? Seems like a good number of people prefer the suggestion over the current.
The suggestion is far from good and the current isn't so horrific it needs a pull, Keep Until Better Image Suggested applies here for me.
I don't care for the suggestion or the current.
A couple of weeks ago, I was enlightened to know that "Too Much Text" is against the rules.
Well, this trope page's image has too much text.
I don't know what to suggest.
