According to Akyuu, the softer the material, the less it works (and vice versa).
She recommends putting your valuables in a rubber cage (and then questions if it's necessary since Seiga doesn't care about material things)

Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Seiga doesn't phase through walls either, she creates temporary holes in walls.
I can't help but wonder whether or not that chisel could be used to pass through the Great Hakurei Barrier.
Mudkip's final evolution is in fact NOT Mudkipperino.I don't think you can get softer than "not physically there; magic".
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.According to the Touhou Wiki, Seiga Kaku's name in Mandarin Chinese would be Qing'e Huo, and one of the tales collected in Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio concerns a girl named Qing'e Wu who follows her father's footsteps to study Taoism, falls in love with and marries a guy named Huo Huan, then is presumed dead but later found to be hermitting with daddy.
This doesn't tell us much about Seiga that we didn't already know, though I guess now we can call her by her proper name?
I don't think you can get softer than "not physically there; magic".
Chisel or no chisel, she got in Gensokyo somehow.
So... if the barrier is permeable, do birds fly through it? Like, do ornithologists in central Honshu wonder where certain bird populations go during certain seasons?

"The acting imperial viceroy of Doma, Yotsuyu's grace and beauty belie a heart of stone."Well then you have to take into consideration Nue, who went OUT of Gensokyo to recruit Mamizou. But that's a discussion for when she gets brought up.
Stella ~Part 3 (Atelier Shallie)The zashiki warashi also managed to pop out pretty easily. Doesn't seem all that hard, really, for gods and youkai.
I think it's mentioned that fantastic things tend to just naturally end up in Gensoukyou anyway. Sometimes, they just wake up there.
Don't PM me. We don't like being PMed.Kasen needs to take a lesson from these Zashiki Warashi.
Everything is relative. So a lot of Seiga's fanart is pretty samey. Lots of busty and skimpy stuff, perhaps a disproportionate amount of cat ears because of her nickname or hair style. And I think that is in part reflecting her character - she's another of those "defined" cast members, with a well-established personality and role to play. With the likes of Marisa there's an array of nuances or facets of the character that a storyteller or artist can use, but we seem to have a pretty clear idea who Seiga is.

Everybody loves Seiga!
...That's actually ...Who does love Seiga? Her family is long dead, her co-conspirators are disavowing her, and her closest ally is a mindless zombie.
She's not at all sympathetic, but still pitiable.
Current earworm: "UNDERWILDS"Hmm, macabre yet heartwarming, and also bittersweet.
Makes me think more about Seiga's relationships. She likes putting others in awe and getting attention from the right people, and who is she closest to? The corpse-robot she programs. So from Yoshika she gets unwavering devotion, and also someone Seiga can control utterly, with just the right words on a slip of paper. Yoshika's brain has too many maggots for her to properly appreciate Seiga's awesomeness, but on the other hand she'll never abandon her, and will never die. And again, she's a walking monument of Seiga's mastery over life and death, so that's another plus.
Contrast with Seiga's fellow Taoists. They're all important ladies, so their esteem means something. However, now that they've cheated death and their plan to rule Japan fell apart, they don't actually need Seiga anymore, so she can't control them as a mentor. I suspect their "break-up" with her was mutual.

Current earworm: "UNDERWILDS"Seiga is Miko's Evil Mentor and something of an attention seeker.
"The acting imperial viceroy of Doma, Yotsuyu's grace and beauty belie a heart of stone."I don't think so? From what I understand about the Barrier, It'd be like ripping a hole open on the Mario 64 infinite staircase. Where do you put the hole? But then, It somehow can make tunnels underground (which clearly isn't 'just' opening a hole to the other side of a barrier).
Actually, a thought on that: She may have gone down into the Underground (which is notably rather large) and then just gone over a ways and gone up and ended up at the shrine.
I strongly suspect If Seiga really knew about Tewi's personality, she would latch on immediately. Tewi just seems like the perfect sort of mind to pit Seiga's genius against. It would probably revolve around Tewi trying to keep evading Seiga's notice. Could be really interesting, but I don't think I could manage writing it without making Seiga be Yosemite Sam/whoever else to Tewi's Bugs bunny.
As for how she got into Gensokyo, I figure she basically just followed the Mausoleum.
Only one person I can think of... the only one that matters: Seiga. She just can't get enough of that clever girl.
Living too long is far from her only sin, though it's certainly among them. Good and proper hermits are 'allowed' to live long because they're using that extended life to pursue enlightenment. Seiga's using it to dick around. And while the image doesn't easily overlay, she's almost like a child in that regard. She's got her whole life (until she gets bored with it, basically) ahead of her, no responsibilities, and so hey, why not just have fun?
Well, because she's not supposed to be a kid and darn it grow up and use your indefinite duration life, rather than frittering it away. Hmph. Youth is wasted on the eternally young.
I suspect Seiga's MO to lean a bit towards control freak, but not in a typical way. She's gotta be the one giving commands and pulling strings... but she'd really prefer you didn't realize it. She strikes me as a puppetmaster without any long-term goals. And only one puppet now that the others have wised up to her game.

I write some fanfiction. Satori's Tale is done... but I'm not. She's got no plan, she's down to her last ally, and I would argue that this makes Seiga a ticking time bomb. How much longer until she runs out of interesting people to bother? What will this master manipulator do to amuse herself then?
Heh, it's easy to mix her up with Seija, and I'd argue that it's a role that Seiga would be perfect for - finding some dupe to prod into causing an Incident.
Maybe, but that's a big "if." Tewi strikes me as someone who's pretty good at staying below notice when it suits her, and with the likes of Eirin and Kaguya around Eientei, Seiga would likely overlook her. And while Seiga could consider Tewi a Worthy Opponent, I doubt the feeling would be reciprocated - Seiga's the scrub sort of schemer who has to insert herself as a king's advisor, while Tewi can accomplish more while playing the role of court jester. Or stage midboss.

Seiga seems to remind of fanon Yukari as she seems to harass people for laughs and she manipulates everyone around her. Yukari is a serious person who doesn't unless it is to make a point or something of that nature.
"The acting imperial viceroy of Doma, Yotsuyu's grace and beauty belie a heart of stone."Only Yukari's pranks are pretty harmless in the long run, while Seiga just doesn't care if anyone gets hurt. It would probably amuse her, actually.
Likewise Yoshika resembles fanon Yuyuko (omni nom nom) and Miko resembles fanon Remilia (vampires sparkle, right?)

Indeed. Yukari is can be troll but she isn't malicious.
That makes sense.
"The acting imperial viceroy of Doma, Yotsuyu's grace and beauty belie a heart of stone."Well, I think we can just about wrap up our Seiga discussion, so we should anticipate Nitori making an appearance (or a not-appearance, as it may be) sometime tomorrow.
And after her will be Meiling, but I still haven't consulted the virtual dice to determine the conversation topic past that, because I'm interested in ya'll's opinions on whether we need a review period, should go back to voting, or what.
FYI, there's 70 entries left on my list of characters (and six locations), 16 of which are PC-98 characters, and three of those are Marisa, Yuuka and Alice.

Write-up:
Like most kappa, Nitori is a brilliant engineer with an overstuffed backpack full of strange devices and heavy ordinance, but she's still a river spirit at heart and so has a supernatural ability to manipulate water. Depending who you ask (and when), she's either a shy but helpful lady, a greedy youkai scam artist, or maybe ZUN is right and she's a strange girl whose personality can shift in the middle of a conversation.
See, she was introduced as a bashful bystander who tried to warn the protagonist away during Mountain of Faith, before teaming up with Marisa to solve the mystery of Subterranean Animism. But when Nitori returned as a playable character for Hopeless Masquerade, many fans were surprised to see her as a faithless swindler taking advantage of the village's crisis of faith by running a festival stall and raking in as much dough as possible.
Perhaps we could blame a black-white witch's influence for this, though some have argued that the signs of Nitori's less admirable personality traits were there all along. She had to get those shirikodama somehow, after all...
Relations:
- Marisa Kirisame (ally, shipping target)
- Other kappa (occasional co-workers)

Current earworm: "UNDERWILDS"You missed a perfect opportunity to use the new ULiL portrait.
So Seiga's special ability is passing through walls, like a ghost. But it's less of a special ability and more of she has a special chisel that allows her to pass through walls. And "walls" is just a placeholder for saying she can go through anything with that thing. Convenient tool. Suiki would've definitely caught her in his whirlpool trap if she just didn't have it on her.
...Hey, maybe Tewi's prank mastery would go up a notch if she and Seiga teamed up! Or if she took the chisel for herself.
