I was hoping Darksiders 2 would go on sale, and here my hopes were answered. 80% off it and all of the DLC? Yes please.

I guess we could go... wherever we please.

[up][up] Is Darksiders 2 fun/good?

I played the PS3 version and I had a ton of fun with it. Takes the best bits of Darksiders, adds in some beautiful environments, a surprisingly deep loot system and a pretty interesting skill tree. Plus Death is gloriously snarky in comparison to War, which is great. So yeah, it's got a lot going for it.

I guess we could go... wherever we please.

I thought I'd just throw in a few opinions on some of the lesser-known titles that are on sale, since everybody knows about the big brands.

If you liked Amnesia, you'll probably like Penumbra. It's a little clunkier and more frustrating, but I also found it a little more genuinely frightening and less contrived in terms of plot. It's got that same basic mix of puzzle solving and exploration, and I really liked the puzzles (which I don't usually).

I thought Dead Horde was rather dull. It's very slow and repetitive but not very atmospheric for all the slowness, and has an awful death recovery system to back up its mindless shoot'n drive gameplay.

Deadlight starts out good, but gets old fast unless you really, really like platforming and 2D physics gags. Stay away otherwise, no matter how nice it looks in the screenshots.

They Bleed Pixels is basically Super Meat Boy with a different theme. If you like the masochist twitch platformer subgenre, it's for you, but if you don't, its incredibly punishing gameplay won't change your mind. Don't make the mistake of getting it just because 'Oh, Lovecraft theme!' like I did, because the theme is very secondary to the brutally hard level design.

Ghost Master is surprisingly fun and doesn't look awful for a budget title. It's like playing a very specific Sims scenario that's crossed over with Ghostbusters... and you're the ghost. The mechanics are a bit shallow and easy to game for a score advantage, but a lot of fun can be had from just messing around and not taking it seriously.

Darkness II is great if you don't mind it being a strictly linear action game (you can level your attack skills, a la Borderlands, but it's otherwise pure action) rather than an open-ended action rpg. I can't think of any other major complaints with it other than boss fights being annoying, but I only got noticeably stuck on them a couple times on the hardest difficulty.

I'm assuming that everyone already owns Don't Starve by now. If you don't, you really should. Particularly recommended for people who love Minecraft, exploration games or British humor.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

Crap. I'm between jobs right now so I can't afford to take advantage of this. Luckily, I already have a number of those anyway.

I was going to go for the Bioshock pack then I noticed on the Steam page that they had Securom.

Expletive deleted that.

Bioshock's Securom is the sort of Securom with no limitations whatsoever to installs and access. At least at this point. So tbh, you've got nothing to worry about in the case of DRM related issues.

I just don't trust anything with Securom in the name of the thing. I spent hours and hours getting rid of the crap when I uninstalled games and that stupid tool they released did squat in getting rid of it.

Wondering if Alice: Madness Returns is worth it. I've never played the first game and am disappointed that it's not available the way other noted games its age (like Deus Ex, System Shock and Thief) is.

EDIT: And Another World on sale? JOY! I mean mycaruba!

I was hoping Eversion (HD) would be on sale. But it is pretty cheap on Steam right now, so I guess it doesn't need a sale.

None of those games really interest me though. Still, the sales are always nice.

I can't tell you what you will and won't like, but I can recommend The Typing of the Dead: Overkill pretty easily - as long as you don't mind a little zombie violence and a crapload of swearing. The premise is ridiculous (although sadly they don't have the dorky keyboard backpacks from the first Typing of the Dead), and it doesn't take itself remotely seriously.

Oh so NOW Bloodlines goes on sale.

I can recommend Lone Survivor and Penumbra and by the Nine they have Shadow Man! Really going back with that last one.

But that's a story for another time.

not particularly impressed with this sale, tbh.

only game ive got my eyes on is the walking dead season 1.

its a pretty understated sale compared to usual, aint it? aside from the header it doesnt really look like a sale...

^ Well it's a small sale for horror-ey/supernatural-ey games...not a giant Summer/Winter sales or last year's thanksgiving sales...

I (or someone else) will get a new thread for winter sales...

I'd say the real gems of the sale if you dont already own them are probably walking dead season 1 and the eternally classic Vampire: Bloodlines.

which is still a criminally underrated action-rpg.

Is it underrated? I see it pimped every time there's a sale with it, which is why I didn't mention it.

Kind of a shame that Vt M doesn't have more games produced for it, the setting is really perfect for Bethesda style open world spinoffs, and we could use more modern day rpgs.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

BTW, in case anyone's wondering, the BioShock 2 deal unfortunately doesn't include the Minerva's Den DLC. Just a heads up.

Still waiting on what someone here thinks of Alice: Madness Returns.

It's fine. The environments and design are excellent, but the story is incredibly dark and the game as a whole feels...disjointed if that makes sense.

Not Three Laws compliant.
