The roster would probably be a lot like Melee, I'd imagine, minus maybe Pichu and Doc Mario. Non-combat characters like Captain Falcon and Fox would likely be reworked in the same way to give them fighting abilities.
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]More clones would exist, since they're just palette swaps with different stats. So we'd easily see Pichu, Raichu, Dr. Mario, Metal Mario, Giant Donkey Kong, etc.
I could see everybody up to Brawl being playable, except Giga Bowser, the Hands, and the other main bosses. Possibly Giant DK as well.
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.I'm not sure if MMO fits. I mean, multiplayer online, yeah, but how can a fighting game be "massive"!
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I think 'Smash Bros.' is being used as short-hand for 'game with a large crossover cast of Nintendo characters' here, rather than referring to anything else about the series. Somewhat like The Wonderful 101, when it was still Project P-100.
Also, given Nintendo's infamous reputation for rather lacking online integration, I'm not entirely sure how a MMO would be comfortably integrated on any of their systems before the Wii U...
...... How the heck could you have an MMO on the Nintendo 64? I mean, that system was awesome, but let's face it, there's only so much you could do in 1996-2001. The internet wasn't one of them.
Anyways, if Smash Bros. where originally an MMO, it probably would be bigger then Brawl was, but the Sequels probably would have suffered and sales would have declined (Because MMO's are a dieing breed). However, something similar to an MMO that isn't a complete MMO might actually have been beneficial to Smash Bros.
If the Super Smash Bros series had started as a Phantasy Star-era MMO, what do you think gameplay would have been like? Which characters would make it in?
Would it do better if it went the route of MO or a MOBA?
