So, October 31st is right around the corner. Halloween. Trick or treat.

As you all may not know, last year's trick involved cycling everyone's avatars through a random pool of scary images to spook people out. The question: Whatever shall we do this year?

The answer:    A steampunk avatar contest!   

Yup, you heard it right. I hereby present the Official Steampunk Halloween TV Tropes Contest of 2013! Where we whip up the zaniest steampunk avatars to wow everything!Or something.

The No-So-Serious-But-Still-Very-Important-Rules:

• Please DO NOT edit the crowner for the time being, only vote. If you wish to participate or nominate anyone, post the handle below and a moderator will add them to the crowner.
• Regular avatar rules apply: images must not exceed 20 KB or 100 x 100 pixels.^note If you can't resize your avatar below 100 x 100, it will be resized automatically once uploaded to the server, so long as it doesn't exceed 20 KB. No GIF or animated images.
• Refrain from downvoting others just to increase the chances of whomever you wish to win. It's less fun that way!
• You may upvote as many avatars as you like.
• Keep your avatar on! We need to see it!
• One avatar per person. If you change Avatars, and want to enter a second one, the first one will be removed from consideration.
• If there's any conflict with two or more people using the same avvie, the first person to post in the thread with a given avatar will claim it.
• Moderators are not eligible for entering the contest.

Entering:

Just post that you want to enter below. Besides uploading the avatar to your forum profile, also upload it to the TV Tropes image uploader and post it.

Voting process:

See the box underneath the "add post" button? This cronwer is where you toss your votes.

• Select the "Show/Hide Options" button on the bottom right◊ to see the options.
• Click on the UP arrow◊ for the avvies you like.

"But whatever shall be the prize?", you might ask. World domination. of course. Errrm, badges. Badges is what I meant. Shiny, exclusive badges!

The winners shall be announced on October 31st, so you have a whole week to vote like crazy. So go out there and do it! The pumpkin commands yooooooooooooou.

FYI, the mods have all dressed up in steampunk avatars for the occasion, but we aren't eligible to participate in our own contest. Feel free to tell us how awesome they all are, though.

If you don't see the badges, the distributed cache probably hasn't caught up yet. Be patient and try a cache refresh.

How does voting work? (Especially if I rotate avatars?)

Once we have enough participants, a crowner will be set up. Voting only, please! Let the mods do the adding so we don't get duplicates. Rotating avatars will be a problem. I'd ask that you not do that for the duration, since voting will be by handle, not by image.

Edit: We'll probably link the image in the crowner to prevent gimmicks.

   Make sure you're wearing the avatar you want voted on when you post in the thread.   

It should also go without saying, but wearing the same avatar as someone else will make you ineligible to win under that avatar. First come, first served. ^note Let's please not have to deal with any accusations of plagiarism; this is a fun contest!

And by "first come" we mean, " the post with the earliest timestamp in this thread". We have no way of knowing who added it to their gallery first. We can see who used it here first.

One per troper, please. You can upload as many as you like and play with them, but you can only participate in the contest with one. Choose your best!

The crowner starts as soon as we get a minimum number of submissions. It will run for a week so there's plenty of time to collect votes.
