@Fast Eddie What exactly should I copy and paste from the page source?

To accomplish what? I don't think anyone was asking for a code clipping.

I must have misinterpreted what you meant when you said:

If you are experiencing this, please look at the source of the page and search for "Set All Folders(". if it doesn't look like "Set All Folders('closed')", copy it and post it here.

I'm not good at stuff like this sad

That was just him trying to figure out what the problem was. He did, and it should be fixed.

Oh, okay. For what it's worth, I'm still having this problem. Not really a big deal, just slightly frustrating.

Also for what it's worth, the "Folder preference" option works fine with this account (I just made it yesterday).

I know this isn't a major issue, but I was just wondering if anyone's come up with any sort of workaround for it yet. When I try to change the profile setting to closed folders, it appears to save my change initially, but the folders appear open anyway when I visit a page, and when I return to my profile settings page, the folder default is back to open again. (I can change other profile settings just fine, though.)

I'm also having this issue. Again, it's only whether the folders default to open or closed. I'm on Windows 7 with Chrome 36, if that helps.

I've always had this problem and the folderpref cookie reverts itself back to the value of "open" if I try to manually change it to "closed". Naturally, saving on the profile page doesn't save my folder preferences.

Try clearing your browser's cache. That fixes this in most cases.

Nothing's worked for me. I even tried using different browsers, including Internet Explorer, which I've never used to browse the site before. It still failed to save the setting, even after I cleared all cookies and browsing history and tried again. This particular setting just refuses to change, even though the others haven't caused me any trouble so far. It only looks like the setting has changed immediately after I click Save; as soon as I leave or refresh the page, it goes right back.

I've forced it to closed in the database for MrL1193. Clear your tvtropes.org cookies and let's see if it takes.

That did the trick; it was set to closed after I cleared the cookies and logged in again. Thank you very much! smile

I am guessing you had a duplicated cookie. Did you see two or more there for folderpref?

Er, no, I can't say I did—though I did see the folderpref cookie in there before I deleted all of them.

To make sure I didn't just miss it, I checked the cookies in Firefox (I usually use Chrome) before visiting the site from there again. There was definitely only one folderpref cookie there, both before and after I logged in. The folders defaulted to closed as soon as I logged in, though.

I've tried clearing my cache and my cookies, as well as logging out and back in. Nothing's working.

Try changing your preference to open then back to closed. Maybe something is jacked up about writing the cookie.
