He looks weird as Hell without a nose. Other than that I kind of like this design.

Dunno. Dem eyebrows. Which is weird as OG Megabyte has no eyebrows.

He's a sentient computer virus with a British accent and claws. I'm flexible with his character design. [lol] Just don't give him a flaming skull and eyeliner.

Eh. He's a little too bulky and a little too busy. The focus is pulled entirely away from his face unless its the only thing on-screen.

The User bit kinda misses the point of the User. The point was the it could be anyone and that Mainfrain could be in any computer.

That it could be any of us.

Damn, what a train wreck. Makes me nostalgic for the old ReBoot. Maybe I'll go rewatch that.

There's One Episode Of The Guardian Code Worth Watching

There are moments where The Guardian Code brushes up against the edge of an interesting idea, like the antagonistic relationship between the Sourcerer and Mega Byte, who he enslaves to carry out his bidding. But a proper follow-up to the original Re Boot, this show is not.

That being said, the last episode of the first season, “Mainframe Mayhem,” is legitimately fantastic and makes you wonder why the studio even bothered with the others.

I know this is a little off-topic, but I was hit with a detail from the original series when there were complaints about the Guardian Code writers not really understanding Megabyte and Hex's power levels.

Megabyte is a very lawful character, and the heroes always defeat him through chaos (when plans inevitably fall apart and they have to improvise). Hex is chaotic and too powerful to be defeated through sheer force (Painted Windows aside) and usually needs to be talked out of conflict rather than attacked.

Just thought that was a neat detail.

I decided to bite the bullet and watch this travesty. Even disregarding that it has NOTHING to do with Reboot it's still terrible. I don't think there have been ten consecutive seconds without something cringe inducing happening. It's just bad and generic and uninspired. And Megabyte just doesn't sound like Megabyte. And I'm not talking about his voice actor, who is passable. I'm talking about his actual dialogue. If he's making a speech or something it sounds like something he might say, but during action scenes it's just terrible and un-Megabyte-y.

Augh. I knew the Guardian Code was going to be bad but, ugh. The first episode is abysmall. Just out and out terrible. As an origin story it suuuucks. The show is literally incapable of going 10 seconds without having an incredibly stupid moment. Things get better after the first couple episodes and it sort of finds a groove. It has nothing to do with Reboot, but if you removed the title and Megabyte and said it was a new IP then it would be tolerable. It would still be really stupid though. Megabyte gets a cat virus in one episode. He’s thinking of names for stand lists stuff like chaos and mayhem. Because we all know how much that Megabyte is supper into this things, unlike his sister who is all about order. In one episode the main bad guy, the Sourcerer, tries to hack a tropical storm. He hacks a military weather satelite that magically turns a minor storm into a hurricane. Just because. The good guys stop this by planting a bomb in cyberspace. When it goes off it blows up the satellite in the real world. The whole show is dumb like this, but after the first bit it became less offensive.

Then Episode 10 happened.

This show is basically a reboot. It is impossible for it to share continuity with the old show. Then in episode 10 Megabyte goes to Mainframe and it’s just like it was in the early episodes of the original show. Megabyte meets with Hex and she throws an attack at him, which Megabyte just no-sells, because we all know that of the two Megabyte is the one with all the magic powers. They can’t even get Hex’s face transition right, half the time, which should be the easiest thing in the world. Oh, and it turns out Mainframe just happens to be located in the back of the good guys base. They just never knew about it. Then there’s this guy, he’s a fan of the original Reboot series. Like a super fan. He wears a shirt with the logo on it and he has a statue of Mike the TV. How he can be a fan of a TV show that doesn’t exist in this universe. He really wants to play a game, but he can’t because until now Mainframe has been in low power mode. Though why this guy needs what the show calls an antiquated server that is miles away from his actual computer is too obvious a question for this show to answer. He’s a thousand times more of a caricature than comic book guy from the Simpsons. And you would not believe how bad the game cubes look. They’re like blocks of stone. When Bob shows up he recites his narration to the original show, but it couldn’t be more awkward and out-of-place. When the main characters show up and saw they are Guardians Users, Bob barely bats and eye. He just accepts it without questioning where these new “Guardians” came from, or how they were given the title, and he certainly doesn’t question how there is a user in Mainframe.

This whole episode is made by someone who obviously saw one episode of the original show, and pays lip-service to it, but was clearly was unable to understand what actually made it good. Or who the characters are. Or have even a passing idea of how the world works.

But the creators of this new series said they themselves were fans of the old show. That would mean that they were making fun of themselves. Unless *gasp* they're all F*#&ing liars.

Hey, so episodes one through 16 are airing on regular ass TV in Canada. That's 6 episode past what you get on Netflix. Don't know when the other episodes are going to come to Netflix.

The old show has so much more creativity and personality. The new show has cyberspace as this dead lifeless region, but in the old days the Net was filed with populated cities. When Reboot began it was a simple, kid-friendly show, but as time goes on it becomes more. By the last four episodes of the second season the show stops becoming totally episodic and begins an epic storyline that encompasses the remainder of the show. And there are actual characters, with goals and personality. If you think this remake is good you are going to be blown away by the original.

Cyberspace in the original was this large lovecraftian location, the web itself a vast sea of horrors filled with creatures beyond understanding.

The web in this is blue and square.

The NET was an assortment of systems. The WEB was a Lovecraftian void filled with monsters. They are two completely different things.

The original Reboot had a ton of pop-culture homages from the well-known to the super obscure, like The Prisoner (1967). In the new series this was replaced by, well, nothing really. It's just that bland. You knew that with the original Reboot that everyone involved was excited to work on it and that love showed in every scene.

Also, I'm like 90% sure Daemon was the Y2K bug.
