Breaking news - Sega Buys Atlus:
Time Gal's driver's license photo.Do you guys really think Sega/Sega Sammy/Sega Dream Company/whatever will interfere with Atlus that much?
I hope Atlus is right.
Considering Sammy interfered with Sega for YEARS yeah I imagine they will. Sammy is well...let's just say they played a large part in Sega's dark ages.
Yes. Somewhere in the Sega/Sammy organization are a bunch of insidious, overzealous copyright and patent trolls. In the past year alone, they've sent out a bunch of illegal takedown notices on YouTube for any video that so much as mentioned Shining Force (even those that had no actual gameplay footage — this was not a "fair use" issue), and tried to sue Level-5 claiming they infringed on Sega's patent on touchscreen drag and drop (you know, invented by Sega in their famous game, Windows 3), even though Level-5's game in question was a year older than the patent itself. I can only hope they don't try to "enforce" the IPs they acquire from Atlus and destroy Atlus's reputation, but this does not bode well at all. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some tables to flip. Sigh, it feels like Microsoft buying Rare all over again.

I've just searched shining force on youtube and found a bunch of videos? Also, this is hardly as bad as Microsoft buying Rare. I know you're upset, but let's not get crazy. Man, I just wanna see business at Atlus go on as usual so I can be like 'LOL'. But if it doesn't, y'all can give me as much crap as you want.
Mah HeadphonesSega has stopped doing it, but as far as I can tell, they never helped users get the videos they took down back online, and they never really apologized for their actions.

Personally, I'm just going to go ahead and assume the worst now, so that I can either be right or pleasantly surprised.
There needs to be a word for those brief moments of clarity where you realize just how profoundly weird your life is.
They issued a very half-hearted non-apology buried in the middle of a really long forum thread on only their American branch's site. The Japanese branch, which was responsible for the takedowns, still doesn't admit they did anything wrong at all. Plus compared to their frivolous lawsuit against Level-5, the takedowns are next to nothing. I was originally going to give Sega the benefit of the doubt and chalk up the takedowns to human error until news of that lawsuit broke, at which point it was painfully obvious that they were just being sociopathic bullies.
Mah HeadphonesAnd thus lies the reason why The Cynical Brit and others have been running a sort of Sega boycott since that incident, refusing to cover any Sega-made or Sega-published game that comes out or has been out (whether it's the Total War series, Binary Domain, the Sonic games, etc.), as well as removing previous videos they made on Sega games until Sega Japan someday comes out and apologizes for real.

Also, this is hardly as bad as Microsoft buying Rare. I know you're upset, but let's not get crazy. Can someone tell me why people thought that Microsoft buying Rare was a bad thing? I mean, nowadays with the benefeit of hindsight, we can see the problem, but there weren't exactly any warning signs at the time.
Rare's style and MS style don't really mesh you know? Plus having a company with business practices like MS having the creative-long loved RARE under its belt kind of casted a shadow in fans' mind the minute it happened.

At the time, Microsofts style was defined just as much by Voodoo Vince as it was by Halo. In the console gaming sphere, they were an unknown element.

Insert titleAww, dang it, I more or less secretly hoped that Nintendo would buy them Dang you Sega!
Time to change the style, for now
Mostly A LurkerHonestly, it was mostly Nintendo fans pissed that Rare couldn't develop games on the systems they like anymore. Hell, I was one of them!
For the record, when I referred to Microsoft buying Rare, I meant with the benefit of hindsight.
The first thing I thought of when I heard about this purchase was Crusader of Centy. NexTech was apparently bought by Sega back in the day as well, so it's not out of the question.
