Sunset doesn't have the same campiness though.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.@Dark: Unless I'm forgetting something, a Friend in Deed just had a short portion of felt animation, which could easily be mimicked in flash.
Last case of genuine, no-bones-about it live action was in Pinkie Pride, during the Goof Off. There's a quick cut to a rubber chicken flailing about(Boneless 'dancing'), followed shortly after but a live action short of an Alligator... chick? Cub? Whelp? A young alligator doing fuck all(Gummy 'dancing').
In both this and that case it's just the sheer absurdity of it. Ironically, it's much less impactful from Discord because you kind of expect him to be absurd. His antics are fun, sure, but you get used to it after a while. His unpredictability becomes kind of predictable, almost trite. Whereas in Pinkie Pride, that kind of gag had never been done before in this show, so two rapidfire came out of nowhere. I know it hit me like a brick.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Tree Hugger is another one of those breakout characters.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectIt's amazing how easily one-shot characters can sometimes get big fan bases, no matter if it's my little pony, Phineas and Ferb, or even Avatar: The last airbender.
I can kinda get what they're going for with Discord; he wants to be a good guy (or at least, to be on the same side), but the idea of not actively causing conflict is so foreign to him that he barely knows how to deal with it. I think they kinda wrote themselves into a corner; on one hand, you have to give him Character Development or he becomes too boring, but on the other hand, his Jerkass qualities are part of what make him entertaining.
I think the best way of doing things would be try to set up his relationship with the cast as a We Want Our Jerk Back! scenario, where he spends most of his time as The Imp or The Gadfly, doing things that mildly annoy them, but occasionally he really goes above and beyond to do something extraordinarily helpful when it really counts. Basically make it so that on day-to-day business he screws with them, but when the chips are down he proves that he can cares, in his own twisted way.
Reaction Image RepositoryI'd like an episode where it's shown that his perspective is quite different from how ponies often see things.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!I just can't see Twilight reciprocating.
I didn't write any of that.I honestly prefer them more as rivals or maybe Vitriolic Best Buds rather than a romantic couple. Like Twilight is glad to have another magically skilled (to a point) unicorn to compare notes with, while Trixie sees it as a way to challenge herself. As a romantic pairing Mauxie blows it out of the water, though, if only because it's completely plausible that Maud and Trixie might have known each other.
Reaction Image RepositoryAgreed. I'm not a fan of Mauxie, but it at least makes more sense (as does pairing Trixie with literally every other member of the Mane Six).
EDIT: Basically, as I've said elsewhere, i hate shipping for out-of-Universe reasons instead of in-Universe reasons.

I love it that the Les Yay page basically states that Sunset and Twi have better chemistry with each other than their purported ex-boyfriend
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! As little as I try to think about the issue of same-sex relationships IRL, it's almost a pity there isn't likely to be any future crossover between dimensions, if only to see how far they would take it. (Seriously, let the series be their own separate things.)
There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.Honestly, it would be better if they stayed separate. Just pair Sunset up with EQD Twilight or whatever and have the two universe be parallel but not connected. That way each franchise could just do whatever without having to worry about the effects they'd have on each other.
Something like that. Something that proves Discord is more invested than just trying to suck up to Fluttershy.

Reaction Image RepositoryYou can thank me for that whole section.
What? They deserved one, it's harder not to see it as a "Romantic" Two-Girl Friendship than anything else.
edit: Curses, ninja arrow strikes again.

"No will to break."@Dark: Not to mention since they've both studied under Celestia, you may get senpai-kohai bonds being formed between them.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!I certainly did. Senpai noticed me! pretty much covers all her reactions when getting encouragement. Plus there's the letter thing, which works for those that wanted that season 1 Twilestia vibe back, or prefer a more balanced alternative in ages.
"No will to break."Twilight was pretty much doing the whole "Notice me Senpai" routine last episode.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectTwi likes all her senpai
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! She only has the one though.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectNow that she's gone from student to Princess, Celestia is no longer her Sensei but her Senpai :V
Then she has a Big Brother/Sister complex with both Shining Armor and Cadance at once
And since Sunset Shimmer was Celestia's student as well, there's the senpai-kohai dynamic between them.
I guess Twi likes 'em mature and reliable (for a given value of reliable)

The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Well zero of them are so far, so if people could make all of them gay from here on, that would be great.

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.Well, tough luck getting that on my chapter, because I'm doing something different.
And if you do 1 chapter, you're only seeing 1 set of parents anyway. How many have you done? My memory is foggy.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI did one chapter, but after that I read the story thus far.
Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.
Still trippy. Also, what's with the show and live action cutaways sometimes? That, and the claymation bit in A Friend In Deed.
I've never liked Twixie, mostly because although I find Trixie an amusing character, I don't think they have anything in common. Sunlight works a lot better as a more compatible relationship primarily based on contrasts.
