I'm curious to know what sorts of music correspond to which alignment.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...

Alright! Time for a reaction to Magic Duel! As usual, y'all can join me here. LET'S BEGIN!

  • Nice Cold Open there.
  • Oh hey, it's MA Larson... OH MAH GAWD IT'S MA LARSON! [lol]
  • Okay, who got Angel Bunny get duplicated? ... "I did!" Okay you there.
  • There are fingernails on hooves? ... don't get too analytic Blockhead...
  • OH YEAH! Trixie's back! She was probably the best thing about Boast Busters (my least favorite episode of the show).
  • Okay, Trixie's antics with her new-found magic skills are pretty funny.
  • Wow, Trixie removed Pinkie's mouth... so Pinkie can no longer eat anything... heck, they even pointed that out in that scene. So essentially, Pinkie will die of starvation if she doesn't get her mouth back. That's, like, the epitome of Fridge Horror. But, you know, considering that Pinkie has no mouth, she seems to breathe fine... my god... how do even do Fridge Horror and Fridge Logic at the same time?! ... my god why am I analyzing this show?
  • Heh, nice Call-Back to Swarm Of The Century there.
  • Also, this is a rather cool magic duel so far.
  • Trixie and Zecora?! It's official. I'm gonna really enjoy this now.
  • And yes, I am really enjoying this, thank you very much.
  • Also, finally. Snips and Snails are getting punishment for releasing that Ursa Minor into town! I know it may seem a little harsh to a very small few, but... they released a monster into town presumably endangering the town. I think that you can go as far as you want for punishing these two. And it's all satisfying...
  • Seeing those flags with Trixie's face on it makes me wonder what tagline would go with... ah screw it. I'm just gonna say the only tagline that would fit with those flags. I'm trying to think of other tagline parodies that would fit with those flags. But this is the only one that I could think of. So, the tagline parody that I'm thinking of is... -sighs- "Heil Trixie". It's pretty stupid, I know.
  • TECHNICAL DIFFI- "We're experiencing technical difficulties now. Sorry about that. :/"
  • MY GOD FILLY APPLEJACK WITH A BIG HAT IS SO CUTE THAT I COULD DIE- ACK! "I-Block has died." ... "Reader uses Resurruction!" ... "I-Block came back to life!"... Phew! That was an... interesting NDE I had...
  • Also, funny Jaw Drop by Trixie there.
  • My god... you clever Twily! I'm impressed! [lol]
  • Awww... good to see that Trixie has learnt her lesson... oh yeah! Forgot about Pinkie! Nice fourth-wall breaking there!

So, that was my reaction to Magic Duel! Overall, yeah, I really liked this episode.

Probably classical would be way on the Lawful side, while rock and its many variations would be on varying degrees of the Chaotic side. Dubstep would be Neutral.

Whoa, check out that awesome ninja right there.

@Rin. So far, Story has gone, I'm current, Kyler, Brah, then you, and Ed. Any of these subject to change if anyone would like to go later.

@Rap and metal. They're excellent bodies of music too massive to be called a single genre, but they're deeply misunderstood. Doesn't help what gets played for both on most public places and mainstream radio are empty, mostly shallow songs meant to quickly catch the ear than having much substance. If you want good material for either, you need to go looking for yourself. Otherwise, it seems a bit ignorant to decry all that massive amount of culture as the stereotype propagated by detractors.

Wait, I thought Meta went first, and Story was after you?

[up][up]This is very much true.

[up]Dubstep would be True Neutral, while Chaotic Good would be punk pop

Epic Rap Battles Of History shows that rap has great potential. It's sad that this potential is misused by a whole lot of total morons who think themselves artists because they figured out some curse words sound alike.

Epic Rap Battles of History is the only good rap because it's parody rap.

I'm not much for rap either, but the only album I've bought in the last, I don't know, five or six years was The Heist.

Okay, for rap, I like Eminem, Macklemore, Epic Rap Battles Of History... and... that's it. At least for mainstream rap (then again, I'm not sure if the last one counts as an official rap artist. I will say that Epic Lloyd is better of the two creators of ERB, but only for Dis Raps For Hire). Yeah, I'm not like a lot of people my age.

@Zero. Eeup. Very pragmatic, tries shooting lasers to kill the moment his mooks find the ponies. That, and before he's even maid an appearance onscreen or the ponies know something's wrong, he already snags all the unicorns that telleport, which in this continuity is much more casual. It took all of them combining their talents and using stealth and sneak tactics to have a chance at grabbing that bell. Which, Grogar keeps right next to him because he knows it's his only weakness.

My take:

  • Lawful Good: Ambient music, most acapella, the fluffier variations on pop like Sunshine and Dream, most solo classical light piano compositions, the lighter genres of jazz, ragtime.
  • Neutral Good: Most non symphonic classical, fusion and big band jazz that doesn't stray too far into improv and technicality, most blues and blues rock, quire based anthems, most rock, bluegrass.
  • Chaotic Good: Noise Rock, Noise Pop, most metal with a non misanthropic lyrical theme, most forms of rap along the lines of socially conscious hip hop, nerdcore, alternative rap, funk, hard and progressive rock, melodic hardcore techno, trance, most dubstep, vast majority of punk.
  • Lawful Evil: Dirges, most symphonies with a dark theme, dark ambient, drone, avant guard jazz and classical.
  • Neutral Good: Most dance and rave music, surf rock, folk music, power metal, any self-empowerment rock or pop anthem.
  • Neutral Evil: Most non extreme metal, industrial, goth, most rap that's geared towards boasting that takes itself seriously.
  • Chaotic Evil: Most extreme metal from death to black to grindcore, gangster rap, most murder ballads, harsh noise, more abrasive hardcore techno.

I feel the need to inject some Terry Pratchett into this discussion. In this scene, an angel (Aziraphale) and a demon (Crowley) are discussing the impending Armageddon.

"We'll win, of course," [Aziraphale] said.

"You don't want that," said the demon.

"Why not, pray?"

"Listen," said Crowley desperately, "how many musicians do you think your side have got, eh? First grade, I mean."

Aziraphale looked taken aback.

"Well, I should think—" he began.

"Two," said Crowley. "Elgar and Liszt." That's all. We've got the rest. Beethoven, Brahms, all the Bachs, Mozart, the lot. Can you imagine eternity with Elgar?"

Aziraphale shut his eyes. "All too easily," he groaned.

"That's it, then," said Crowley, with a gleam of triumph. He knew Aziraphale's weak spot all right. "No more compact discs. No more Albert Hall. No more Proms. No more Glyndbourne. Just celestial harmonies all day long."

So musics.

I have never, for the life of me, been able to get into metal. The one exception is I liked "Emerald Sword" by Rhapsody, buuuut if I listened to it now I imagine I'd just find myself distracted by the singer's ridiculous accent ("Eemerald").

Never had a problem with country music, though. Though that might be 'cause I've been in situations where I've had to listen to it a lot. So I dunno.

Rhapsody of Fire has a lot of classical influence, so that makes sense. Though in terms of metal, it has a lot of similarities. High musicianship quality, precise timing, complex and unconventional song structures, and many desperate influences fused into a solidified style.

I think a lot of metal would be easier for the average listener to digest if the majority wasn't horribly produced with low dynamic ranges and peak clipping.

You might enjoy the Symphonic Metal genre as a whole. 'Symphonic' is often a bit of an exaggeration, but it tends to focus a lot more on smoothness and, as Dark mentioned, overall higher musical quality. A lot of metal, to me at least, sounds like "Look what I can do with/to this guitar!"

I enjoy Dream Theatre(Though they might be prog rock or something?), though I've heard the criticism that all their songs sounds the same... eh? I also remember enjoying Nightwish, but I haven't listened to them in a few years and my tastes and critical ability have evolved a lot since then, o for all I know they could actually have been really, really bad.
