Yeah, misleading pic is bad. Yank it.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanGonna go with pull here as well - This one might be better demonstrated with a battle map showing what happens, but that might be too literal.
"Did you expect somebody else?"The caption even implies that the trope is about literal cavalry.
Pull.
I honestly liked the John Howe painting of Pellenor better, mainly because it tied in well with Gondor Calls For Aid.
The current was swapped without any discussion by Tapol, which is really bad form and a bad image, exemplified by its brilliant caption. I will PM this troper about not doing this. Here is the previous:
And current:

Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.I understand wanting to improve things, but he just changed the picture two days after the discussion started without saying anything here. That said I do think the old west one is better. They could be saving the heroes in the nick of time.
I think a Trope Repair Shop may be in order to rename the trope, because I think I see where the troper who put the current image up is coming from.
The way I see it: "The Cavalry" is just ambiguous enough that any image of an army of soldiers riding on horseback waving their weapons in the air is good enough to depict what a cavalry is, but not what this trope is about.
Now compare this trope, which is about backup forces arriving just in time to save the day, with more specifically named tropes such as The Cavalry Arrives Late and Cavalry Betrayal.
Now, if the trope was named The Cavalry To The Rescue, then it might be even more difficult to find a suitable image, because it would require acknowledgement that this army has arrived to help out the heroes.
..... On the other hand, neither of those other Cavalry related tropes have an image depicting them either, so why should the one that is suppose to be about them arriving to help out the heroes be any different?
That's a good point; this is a vaguely named trope and the image confusion is understandable. With that, I'm good to pull the pic and make this another "come back to IP when TRS gets done with it" case.
I'd say do that.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed. With almost 6000 inbounds, tho', TRS likely won't act on it without evidence of widespread misuse.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanClock is set.
The clock is up. Pending a TRS thread about this trope, I've swapped the old image back in since it's a little more demonstrative than the Wild West one. Locking up; no further action is to be taken based on this thread.
This image illustrates the trope name, not the trope. This is a picture of cavalry, not The Cavalry. The trope is about a group of people saving the heroes in the nick of time, not soldiers on horseback.
