I'm up for this - it sounds right up my alley. Two questions:
1. Do you have anything "already" set up or that we need to know?
2. Would it be cool if I tried out a civilisation I've been working on for my own science fiction setting? Obviously I'd make changes to ensure it didn't clash with whatever we're gunning for here, mind. I didn't want to presume that you'd be a-okay with it.
Sorry if these are foolish questions!
Locking you up on radar since '091. I am starting completely blank. Part of this thread will be devoted to working on important parts of the history once we've established our species and nations.
2. Sure. I plan to run this on the hard side of sci-fi, if that takes care of anything. Post a summary and we'll see what we can do.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimThanks for the prompt answer!
My setting's on the softer end of the scale*, so perhaps it may not be a good match. Hrm.

Locking you up on radar since '09Well, hello there new RP.
UhI'm not asking for NASA, but just for things to be able to be explained in a plausible and consistent manner.
ohai.

"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimOkay, that I think I can do. I just wanted to ensure you were forewarned (and forearmed!). If you wish, I can PM you with what is less hard and let you decide for yourself whether that's okay.
Regardless, I loves me some worldbuilding, so I'm going to really enjoy this!
Locking you up on radar since '09Well this sounds right up my alley
The graceless warrior, wielder of the edgeless blade, prophet of the old religions, writer of fluent nonsense, saviour of soul and song.Like I said before, I am all over this. I'd love to create a civilization with more than two factions, some of them peaceful and some of them not, can lead to very interesting possibilities. But do you have any rules for the civilizations?
There is so many possibilities for what can and can't be done that at the moment I'm operating on a "I'll know it when I see it" basis for what cannot be allowed. For now I'll just say don't make a race of immortal super powered guys and to just use your best judgement. Remember that the practical limitation is that you should be able to play them as a nation and play as an individual going on a space adventure with others.
For those of you playing non-humans please be sure to make a profile with a brief description on your species in addition to the one you make for your nation and individual characters.
On that note, here is an outline you can use to format the information for your nation. Since it's quite a lot of info, don't feel pressured to fill it all in at once. Heck, you'll probably want to consult with each other and bounce ideas off each other to better fit with the overall picture. If you don't think a category applies to your civilization just put N/A.
- Name: What are you called?
- History: Where'd you start? Where are you now? What did you do in between then and now?
- Government: How do you operate? Who is running this joint? What is your relation to other nations?
- Military: Pew pew! Bang Bang! What is your military like? How big is it? How does it operate?
- Infrastructure: The fabric of the nation. How does the nation function? What are the important science and technological parts of the national life? How does law enforcement work? Communication? Transportation? Industry?
- Culture: The social fabric of the nation. Religion, folklore, the arts, customs those sort of things.
- Territory: How many stars and planets are there? How many are inhabited?
- Trivia: Whatever else you think might be worth mentioning.

"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimI would be interested in this, if people are willing to tolerate a newbie (at both worldbuilding and R Ping).
Non est salvatori salvator, neque defensori dominus, nec pater nec mater, nihil supernum. So long and you can spell and be reasonable I'm sure we'll all welcome you. Everyone was new at one point or another after all.
"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimCould be fun. Hope it doesn't die prematurely.
You are reading this.Well, I've got no objections! You seem like a nice enough bloke.
If I can pluck up the courage/find the time/decide on certain things, expect me to fill out a sheet tomorrow.
Locking you up on radar since '09Whoa.
Tentative interest on my end, most because I have a hard time focusing on more than one or two RPs at a time and I have school in about three weeks, but I've got a potential world idea that I haven't had the chance to use yet—with some technology and history adjustments, it could be a feasible civilization idea for this. No promises, but still. :)
"I do not approve of the fact that my favorite quotes are too long for this character limit." - MeI'm probably gonna make a civilization that goes "beep boop".
I think that's the first time I've ever heard someone ask to have their faction beaten up. In all seriousness though, assuming that Parable's fine with what I've got lined up I'd be happy to oblige (mostly because I fully expect that my civilisation has made a few people unhappy with them... or gotten a good kicking because they ran their mouth once too many times. It's sort of like the snotty kid at the back of the class who keeps talking smack and then gets their nose broken ).
Locking you up on radar since '09to Parable: When you say "hard" science fiction, do you mean "nothing actually ruled out as impossible by current science (save FTL travel, kind of necessary for interstellar civilizations)" or "nothing that we aren't pretty sure would for-real work?" Because, short of a whole bunch of really interesting ideas, I'm probably going to have to use aliens to create a plausibly different culture, and as a fan of Bizarre Alien Biology, I'd like to know how far I can go (Crystal people? Evolutionarily ridiculous neurology? Pure energy?)
Non est salvatori salvator, neque defensori dominus, nec pater nec mater, nihil supernum.By the way, what will be the tone of the RP? Light, heavy, silly, serious?
Put me down for tentatively interested; I have a bit on my plate at the moment but I might have time for this.
And this is my idea for a civilization: one divided into four wildly different factions, each one of them focused on being the best at one thing- one faction glorifies physical prowess, the other glorifies creativity, the other logic and math- and the way each of their governments, military and cultures work is based on the what they glorify. Probably four or five factions/nations in the same planet...
I have an idea for a civilization, so I'm putting my interest on the table.
"Why does everything have to loop back to YGO?" -Guy who ruined YGOI have an old idea for a civilization of aliens that I never got to use properly (silicon-based organics that eat metal and sunlight). I think I'll dig it back out for this.
Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia!I am intersted. And i have several ideas for civilizations.
Only one, but things can get...confusing. How many Time Cops does it take to change a light bulb?
Game
This idea was inspired by a couple of games I was once in that have since gone off to RP Heaven. The premise is as follows; In the far off future the galaxy is filled with vast interstellar nations who interact with each other in the usual way, trade, diplomacy, war. Each player would create and control one of these empires and deal with the others in the predescribed way.
At the same time, in a more traditional vein, there will be a group of characters on a space adventure doing something or another that ends up with them visiting each of the player nations and interacting with the local populace and dealing with events there.
It is my hope that this way we'll have the best of both worlds in terms of worldbuilding and story telling. The first part with everyone creating a part of this galaxy and breathing some life into it with politicians, warlords, ambassadors and so on, and the second part will allow you to share your creation and interact with others on a more down to earth level.
So, any takers?
