Good with me.
I'd like to either leave the existing caption or use a formatted caption, since otherwise we have two captions stacked outside the image which is just clunky. I don't mind which we choose to use.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. That was my thought as well. I guess I was undercaffienated when I tried to explain it.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.OK for me.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI like it.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.Well, whether we decide to use the caption of the comic itself or write our own I have a better version ready for upload. No need to upload both, though.
I think it's cleaner to use the comic's own caption, but it's probably shorter to use write one. I probably favour the former option, and leaving it as it is, unless someone comes up with a great caption.
Check out my fanfiction!^ I like that the best. And yea, a better resize is fine with me. I just did a quick and dirty size reduction to be able to post it here.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.That works.
I don't think I like the separate caption, especially since opening the note causes "Island" and the note to go to the next line, making toggling cumbersome. I would keep it like this:
One more thing, usually, something is measured in terms of multiple Hiroshima bombs. And I'm not sure how potholing to Alt Text works, since it's not really Alt Text.

Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed. How is the alt text not alt text?
I'm good with the arrangement in 10, though a normal [[note]] is easier to click than a labelnote splat. 12 has two captions and is just clunky, as I thought, and the worse for how they have different formatting.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Alt Text appears when you move your cursor over it. This text appears when you click on it. I don't really like that particular arrangement, mostly because of the note moving to the next line, but I won't fight it if that's what everyone else wants.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.I don't see any reason to change Randall's "a" Hiroshima bomb to "twenty". Part of the joke is that the various units of measure being used don't make a whole lot of sense when taken together — it's the length of a football field, but only weighs as much as one blue whale and only moves at about 60 mph tops (That's very large, but extremely light for the size, and 60 mph is fast for an animal, but slow as molasses for missiles or planes) and still required a nuke to kill it?
I prefer the caption arrangement in #10 to having both an interior and exterior caption; and using "note" instead of the splat.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Ohhh, I see.
It's potholed to Alt Text, like many XKCD image captions here are, because on the comic site it's alt text. However, here it has to be converted to note form because we can't do custom text on images like that.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. It doesn't happen for me, either.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.It's because my DPI is at 125%.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.Am I the only one who doesn't like it? I don't see how it illustrates and its very text-reliant. I don't see how it wouldn't be interchangeable with a page quote.
You don't see how it illustrates the trope? And the trope is a dialogue (speech pattern) trope. How do you propose to illustrate that without text?

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Honestly, I agree with nitrokitty.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI think having both the caption and the alt text is too much. Honestly, the image speaks for itself without either, though one of them is acceptable.
Check out my fanfiction!I'm voting for 10 as the overall best option.
Having the "punch line" hidden until clicked on puts that version ahead in my opinion. The "moving" of the click point at some screen resolutions is a minor issue, since that's more a client problem than a server problem.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMI dislike XKCD for page images. Sure, it lampshades tropes a lot, but that's ALL it does. The art style, while fine for the comic format, is very visually plain and not all that well suited for page images. Secondly, they rely extremely heavily on the text, which is the job of the page description. Good page images should show, not tell, and XKCD is all tell. I looked at image 10, and got an instant "too long, didn't read" reaction. 12 makes it even worse by proposing EVEN MORE TEXT. Is this really the best we can do?
This page currently doesn't have an image. I suggest todays's xkcd:
The caption can be left in place, and the alt text ("It was finally destroyed by a nuclear weapon carrying the energy of the Hiroshima bomb") used as our caption, or the caption text can be cropped off completely or cropped off and used as our caption.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
