Time for something, and somewhere, different — the JNR Class DD51note

I'm not very much into shunting locomotives...

The DD51 isn't a shunter, though — it's a main-line (Japanese) freight & passenger locomotive.

My bad.

There's just one thing I don't like about the rail. Just the one thing. The screech. That damnable braking screech. Gets me every fucking time.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

I dunno, I kinda like rail screeches. Gives me that feeling of "your journey is beginning/coming to a close". I feel like it's a part of railroading, you know?

Yo, the Japanese did a special on the railroad I'm working on... and my town as well!

EDIT: OMFG THAT IS A NICE HAT.

Cool. It's a pity my right ear can't understand Japanese.

Green Train energy consumption Estimations on high-speed rail operations by Piotr Lukaszewicz Evert Andersson.

I just thought it would be nice to share papers and reports and research articles rather than just news. And this one kicks ass.

Bumping because of recent events.

There has been an accident a while ago in Switzerland (in the town of Wolfenschiessen) where a train overran a car that was crossing the track on a crossing. 3 fatalities. Apparently, that crossing didn't have lights and only the St Andrew cross marking.

Also a train of the Rätische Bahn at 12.45 when it was running across the Albula gorge was hit by a mudslide. Two coaches were thrown down into the gorge below and only stopped from crashing into the bottom by trees. Several injured people, no fatalities.

OK, I'm trying to work out what train I saw today out on the Chiltern Main Line. From what I could see it was a pair of EWS Class 67s top and tailing a rake of about four yellow coaches.

Track maintenance train of some kind, presumably?

Probably.

Sadly, I didn't get a decent look because I was about three or four cars back at a level crossing, so...

Your description makes me think of maintenance trains here, so I am thinking "yes".

I know solid yellow is unique to Network Rail stock.

Sounds like Network Rail stock to me. I'm sure you'll probably find more if you look on rail forums...

EDIT: Is this the one you saw?
