From the creators of Dear Esther, and coming exclusively to the Play Station 4. Sony Santa Monica is once again slapping their name on this one.

Looks kind of artsy.

This is some kind of jab at the upcoming Left Behind remake or an attempt to profit off it, I'm sure.

Curious. It actually seems to imply that the Rapture is something very bad that happened, rather than the "everyone ascends to Paradise" that it's commonly taken as. I'm intrigued.

I'm skeptical of this being much of a game until I see anything to suggest this having actual gameplay (though it is a collaborative project between the two studios and not just the Dear Esther devs, and I don't know that Sony would take it on as an exclusive if it were just like its predecessor). Dear Esther had interesting ideas but was basically a two hour walk through pretty terrain set to a melancholy short story.

The Rapture is a horrific event if you think about. People vanishing in the middle of whatever they're doing. Some have to be driving and flying aircraft. It's also a giant neon sign saying "YOU CHOOSE...POORLY" for everyone still around. Imagine the anarchy when most religions are proven wrong.

That's also assuming this is the actual Christian Rapture with Revelation and Armageddon pending. What if it's something else, vaguely similar, that's been dubbed "the Rapture"?

[up][up][up]They've paid good money for worse in the past. Remember Linger In Shadows?

Ah, crap, the thread already exists (I would've searched for it, but the trailer says "announcement").

So what happens?

Can we ask a mod to just merge the two?

[up][up][up]At least Linger in Shadows had the excuse of being cheaper than the average downloadable game (it was $3). Wheareas Dear Esther was a $10 game that's marginally more interactive and takes about an hour more to get through the first time.

Interaction? Why, that is a valuable aspect of a video game! Good to hear. [lol]

I tried to enjoy Dear Esther, I really did. Did they add an auto-walk to the paid version?

[up][up][up]I got it for $2 in a Steam sale which is probably a bit more in line. Our page on it says it changes if you play multiple times but I wasn't sold enough to go more than once.

Nor was I. And I got it as part of a Humble Indie Bundle.

1984?

There was a book or booklet or leaflette or what have you called "84 reasons why the rapture could be in 1984" I believe.

...oh. it was 88 reasons in 1988

hm

why'd they choose '84?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this game. Seems like an ample fodder for Nothing Is Scarier.

[up] 1984? Don't know. There's certainly nothing relating to that year existing at all.

Well there was a crappy film of that title released that year, with a relatively decent soundtrack or so I have heard.

I've heard that it looks fantastic but is utterly tedious to "play". Dear Esther all over again but with a really token "interaction" element for some story events.
