Try to guess what this trope is about from the name. If you thought it's what a character says about another character's name that they can't remember, you'd be wrong. In fact, this page's previous image illustrated that. This trope is actuallt about when a character's name isn't made sufficiently clear, and the audience is unclear about the name. This name suffers from Stock Phrase syndrome.

It has almost 1700 inbounds and 103 wicks.

Previous thread. Given the high inbounds, we need to show a strong case of misuse if this is going to get renamed. So, I'll conduct a wick to see how well this is used. If we are going to rename it, I like Name In The Manual and No Name Mentioned from the previous thread.

Clicking related links at random, I was finding a fair amount of misuse. Almost always as The Nondescript or just someone other characters constantly forget.

There a way to find out where all those inbounds are coming from? Because that is a comically absurd number of inbounds... and I'd venture a guess they're likely trying to find the misused version of the trope, not that actual one.

Analyzing Inbounds is the page you are looking for.

Thanks to both of you.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say the vast majority of the inbounds are from this Darths And Droids comic.

Which also is misuse, since it's referring to the audience forgetting a minor character entirely. It has nothing to do with a character only being named in supplementary materials/late in the series.

The Fire Emblem Awakening examples are among the misuse I saw. Kallum is the Ridiculously Average Guy who keeps blending into the background that characters keep forgetting.

Question: Do we have tropes for "character that people often forget about" and "character returns and the audience has since forgotten about him"? The latter would be YMMV, I'd imagine.

[up]I don't think we have either but we should to prevent misuse. If I have time, I'll make a YKTTW for "Character who's name is forgotten constantly". If only I could find a good name...

Unrememberable Name?

Also, I think we are at the stage where a Single Prop rename crowner is indicated.

I think this may have to become a disambig; there are several tropes that can be described as "Who is this guy again".

Such as The Nondescript, and Name In The Manual, and Accidental Misnaming, and NPCWeForgotAbout.

A good point. It also means we won't lose the inbounds.

[tup] for 12 as well.

I never noticed that Analyzing Inbounds page before. I don't think it gets considered as often as it does.

Because the link to the latest inbound page isn't part of the Related To page.

Because the first impression is like, "Oh, this has 12,500 inbounds or whatever, so it's not worth a rename." That a site that gets 12,500 visitors a day misused a trope never seems to be considered. And I've seen plenty of threads locked just because of the trope's inbounds.

Page action crowner. I also created two YKTTW's; Forgettable Character and Forgettable Name.

Bumping this to note that My Name Is Not Durwood is often used for "Can't remember this guy's name", which seems to overlap with one of the misuses of this trope, but I am not actually sure if it belongs to Accidental Misnaming.

Calling for the disambiguation motion.

The disambiguation is to be made between the YKTTW tropes above and other tropes. Which ones?

Forgettable Character and Forgettable Name are the YKTTWs. Who Is This Guy Again (after it gets its examples looked through) needs be moved to Name In The Manual or whatever we decide to call it.

The Nondescript and No Name Given are two tropes that could be in the disambiguation.
