The chords, the beat, and the bassline, the solos, the melody...

To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."Guitar solos. I am a sucker for them. A good chord progression is also important.
Be polite. Be efficient. Have a plan to kill everyone you meet. The structures and the composition, although this is mostly more for music with more abstract and unusual structures.
Only Death Is RealI like any song that has a good, solid beat.
Looking for some stories?Any song that has something interesting in its sound. I like unusual instrumentation, creative arrangements, solid melodies, nonstandard chord patterns, big harmonies, etc.
I also like songs that have a Subdued Section and then a big buildup at the end. "I Will Wait" by Mumford & Sons is a pretty good example. That song also has neat instrumentation, with the banjo runs underneath what's otherwise not that country-sounding of a song.
Generally, vocals can make or break a song for me. I mostly like stuff that just sounds good to me, but ultimately, if I don't like the vocals, I don't like the song.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.
Is it the melody, the chords, the backing music, the lyrics, the bass..?
For me I like the chords the most, with the melody at a somewhat close second.
