Disney has infamously refused to do sequels to their line-up for several decades, in fact, since they first started make them. But with a Frozen sequel and Wreck-It Ralph sequel coming, they may be changing their tune.

Especially if the movie is one as successful as Zootopia.

Seriously, the movie made a billion dollars. They'd be stupid to not do something else with it.

Granted that also gives up the possibility of sequelitis, but hopefully the writers can make an Even Better Sequel.

I believe that the Walt Disney Company has learned from its missteps after the disappointing sequels The Lion King 2 and The Little Mermaid 2, among others. Eisner was too quick to greenlight sequels to successful Disney premieres, on the theory that the original's good audience draw will let any sequel "draft" behind it. Bitter experience disproved that notion.

Now, Pixar's The Incredibles is slated to get a sequel, and Brad Bird, the original's director, is taking his time on this to construct a solid and engaging story. No rush-to-market hoopla for him, nosiree. I'm certain any sequel Disney's Zootopia is likewise going to be constructed as meticulously as the original.

Or they can do an animated cartoon, like they're doing with Tangled.

To be honest Zootopia would be great for a Buddy Cop Show as long as the writing was just as good.

I like the idea of a tv series because the setting is interesting enough to sustain a LOT of stories. We only got a small glimpse of what it has to offer.

Yeah, it could be a kid-friendly Law And Order.

Agreed. Much as I love the idea of a sequel movie, this setting is so expansive and diverse that it needs a lot more than another two hours to explore.

I wish they had made a Zootopia show instead of Tangled.

I mean Zootopia has only been out for a year. Tangled's series has probably been in production longer.

A show would be good, but I worry that it would be for really young kids, like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or The Lion Guard or something like that.

It would be great if they took a page out of Gravity Fall's book. Have it be good for kids, yes. But, also deal with some somewhat heavy stuff like Gravity Falls did. With hidden codes, and high amounts of foreshadowing and plot twists. While a kid show, a good amount of the fandom for G Falls were adult men and women, and I think the same could be said for Zootopia.

Wish upon a star,it might come true..if their animated shows prove ratings success then they will most likely greenlight future shows.

A Zootopia cartoon probably won't be as intense as the movie, but it could still be entertainingly well-written, like the Disney Afternoon shows were in the 90's.

Well Olaf got a TV series... or will it be a short...

Given the "sequel" gap between Tangled and its TV show, I doubt we will see a Zootopia TV show soon, but I'd love to hear any plans so I can get hyped again.

Also, I'd better draw Judy accepting a Golden Globe sometime.

@n351100, Gravity Falls was amazing. If a Zootopia TV series ever happens, it would need to be similar in spirit to Gravity Falls for it to be a worthy depiction of the world and character in the movie. The plots would need to be fairly gritty, the characters would need to be realistic and flawed, and the relationships would need to be messy and ambiguous.

My friend and I decided it was more fun to give her another trophy instead.

Well, Zootopia's in the running for Best Animated Feature, along with Moana and Kubo and the Two Strings. Unfortunately "Try Everything" didn't make it for Best Original Song.

I thought it deserved a nomination for best original screenplay and best supporting actor (courtesy of Idris Elba) but am not at all surprised it didn't get them because animation doesn't count because reasons.
