Needs Help: Fan Vid get usage counts

This article is just a mess. As it is, the examples section is a long, convoluted mess of contextless video links, and the "Trends" thing isn't much different. There's no telling which are truly "noteworthy" examples and which are "videos I just happen to like/videos I made and think are the bee's knees".

I propose that this be made a Useful Note, and perhaps allow it as Trivia for work pages. The only way I can see a page listing actual Fan Vids is if someone wanted to put together lists for the winners of various Con AMV competitions, although even that would leave out Fan Vids from other media.

Obviously the description would have to be rewritten to include relevant information from the Trends section, with no mention of "popular combinations" or anything like that, since popularity waxes and wanes.

Is there a reason why we can't list them on a genre page?

Sorry if I don't have the correct terminology - what I mean is that I think there should be no examples. It should be sufficient to say that there are fan vids for every show/franchise ever made to every song ever made without trying to list the "best". Maybe there could be a list of fan vid editors, if there are any with pages here, but as it is, the examples are pretty pointless.

I think it could be an index of the types of Fan Vids, like Abridged Series, AMV, etc. unless there's a page fr that already.

There's Fan Work, the section under Fan Vid having the most subtropes. With the indexes being fixed to be alphabetical, that may be gone.

I do not see why we ought to remove the examples.

[up][up] An index wouldn't be amiss, although considering that it's essentially an AMV/fan-made music video trope as it is, the description would have to be reworked to reflect that. Actually, that's another problem I hadn't noticed before: It says "Fan Vid", but it's only about a particular kind of Fan Vid (albeit one of the more popular ones).

[up] I suppose we could try just economizing the Trends section and removing all examples from there, but considering that there are just so many out there (none of which have work pages here, as far as I know), it's impossible to catalog even the most important ones. There have to be at least as many fan vids out there as there are written fanfics. Maybe include a fan vid recommendation thing, like with fanfics? That's essentially what it is right now, anyway.

OK, the trends section looks kind of like...Analysis/ to me. It's also very long.

Another alternative to all of the current examples would be to list websites that host fan vids - I know that you'd get a similar sample of quality just by searching "AMVs" or "[insert show name here] AMVs" on Youtube.

Also, I'd like to add some common terminology (although I suppose I can only speak for the English-speaking Youtube base). The most glaring problem I noticed when I first stumbled on this page is that it says "AMV" can stand for "Animated Music Video" (implying that it includes Western Animation). At the very least, that's a major Berserk Button for "real" AMV makers, and from what I've seen, people have stopped using it for Western animation because of that (aside from Avatar, but that's an honorary anime anyway).

Just trying to get some ideas out here. I think it's safe to say that, at the very least, we need to have separate pages for Fan Vid and Fan Made Music Video, and we MUST do something about the Trends section.

That first sentence is throwing me off. Is this supposed to be about music videos or just fan made videos?

We have Animated Music Video, which describes something different than what's commonly used. And it says the title's self explanatory!

Looking at this again, another one of the problems is that Fan Vid and Animated Music Video both have ambiguous names.

Anyone?

The age is certainly confusing and needs help.

  • Why is the focus on anime — at least the first sentence says it's also known as AMV, which is then explained as anime music video.

  • The page should be IMO about fan-made video of all kinds.

  • Examples are very close to Fan Fic Recs and should be probably switched to that format.

  • Examples and links — way too many Zero Context Examples and Weblinks only (Weblinks Are Not Examples). I don't like seeing those anywhere.

  • The section about trends is really long-winded and way too specific. Should be rewritten and examples moved to the example section.

I would not rewrite this to match Fan Fic Recommendations. Only move the "trends" section off somewhere else.

Still just awesome like that
@Mikuru: I don't really see the ambiguity behind Animated Music Video. It is literally "a music video that is animated."
Insert witty and clever quip here.

New handle, same name.

My music.
The common usage of "animated music video" in fan culturevis takung clips from an animated show and setting them to music.

Maybe, but if you ask any random schmuck on the street what an animated music video is, they'd probably say "a music video that is animated", and possibly mention "Take on Me".

Besides, I always thought "AMV" meant "anime music video."

Perhaps a Not to Be Confused with notice could be added, since i don't know what else to call Animated Music Video.

Clock's up; locking up.
The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
