Hyperdimension Neptunia The Animation (Choujigen Game Neptune)

The first episode's raw's been out for a while and FUNi's streaming it with subs in about 3 hours. Figured it was time to start this thread.

I did some poking around in the raw out of impatience and saw a reference to Victory's true ending at the end of the episode.

Yeah, subs aren't out yet, which sucks, but frickin.... Kiseijo Rei has appeared this early!!

I can't wait to see this myself.

But before that, some house keeping. Should we make the Neptune the animation trope page like Persona 4 the animation page? One page for the game and one for the anime.

Yeah, I think this needs its own page. Especially because this is apparently an original story.

EDIT: Subs for the first episode are up on FUNimation's site. Notable is that the CPU candidates can't transform in this universe.

Becoming a member at FUNi's site is free. Neptunia is not a premium show there (that's usually reserved for shows with home video rights, usually just the dubs).

In any case, I think the anime is a decent adaptation at minimum. Found it rather strange that they'd foreshadow Rei and Arfoire at the same time. If it weren't for the latter, though, I'd be worried that they were trolling us this entire time and they were adapting Victory.

That and the aforementioned fact that the CPU candidates can't transform yet.

That weirded me out to but it might be used to develop their character. Also, I've seen the episode, curse you Dogoos.

This'll probably pale in comparison to Symphogear's second season, but it's cute! :3

Honestly, I know almost nothing about this series other something like "moe console wars", but figured it was worth checking out once for the tsunako character designs.

Cute, and funnier than expected.

So, asking right now, is it legit to just watch this anime for the boobs and the plot from the get-go?(Like Highschool Dx D), or should I play the games first so I don't miss out on the plot?

You're not missing out on much if you haven't played the games, but granted you'll get the full enjoyment if you have.

Looks like to me so far that the anime is a compressed form of all three games.

First, the goddesses have moved their nations out of their enmity state, something prevalent in the first game.

Younger sisters of the goddesses are featured from the second game, with already built relationship to each other.

Then there's the flyer girl and Arfoire coming from the third game.

It's a wild compress, so it's up to your discretion whether or not you want to get the games first. However, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AGAINST THE FIRST GAME. Re:Birth for Vita is a rehash of the first.

That getting localized to english? Finally, another game for the Vita. Other than P 4 G, Virtue's Last Reward, Disgaea 3 remake, and the upcoming Danganronpa port, there's not much for the system...Maybe Senran Kagura but I don't know Japanese...

Last thing before I decide to start torrenting the first episode, is there a lot of fanservice yet?

Goddess form alone counts, so yeah. It gets fanserviced even in first episode

There have been some spoiler images of episode 2 surfacing on the internet. Based on the images The anime s going to compress all 3 games because Abnes is going to show up in episode 2.

A compression of the first 3 games? I wonder how that can even work.

It will work out somewhat, if the plot arrangement is relatable.

Saw the first episode, and "moe console wars" basically sums it up. Very little aside from fanservice. Sort of like Dog Days, but with less fluffy feelings and more fanservice. Well, it's not like you can have more fluffy feelings than that anime...

I'm not at all familiar with the franchise.

I remember seeing this video game on the internet and giggling at how girly it looked. A video game about console avatars? What will those crazy game developers think of next? I thought I might buy it when the price came down.

Now there's a sequel, and then a spin-off, possibly a second sequel, and now an anime!?

Three main games, an idol spin off, a remake of the first game in the series, another spin off based on the most popular character, and a anime to b more precise. Yeah the series has come far for Compile in such a short amount of time.

You're forgetting the drama CDs, manga and light novels.

But yeah, what he said. Compile Heart found success with this series, so they decided to actually focus on it and clean up the original's problems with each instalment.

@Spoilers: Oh, thank God. I was worried the title was referring to CFW Trick. I hate Trick.

People on both sides of the pond hate CFW Trick. Speaking of that guy, someone on another forum pointed this out. Veterans of the series already know that there are no male main characters unless they are in a background event or a villain. The animation takes this to 11, there are no males anywhere, not even in the background. Well there is one but he's a rat.

I'm adding potholes on the Hyperdimension Neptunia disambiguation (since FU Nimation's title lacks "The Animation") and on the Neptunia page.

Episode 1: A fun watch for the video game stuff. "Is this the famous 'you can't read what it says from the back' sign?!" —> "Sis... that's how most signs work." XD

I'm interested in the game. Been interested for a while, actually, it's just that I heard the gameplay is kinda bad.
