'Quality' is sort of Sega's new thing now. tongue It's why the 25th Anniversary game isn't being talked about yet.

And it's not like Sega made Rise of Lyric, but the worse developer than most, Big Red Button. Have they even said who Fire & Ice's developers are? For that matter, they did say they're actually trying to be better about this game than the other two Boom ones. Not that they're very reliable on quality control. ._.;

When I heard about how bad "Rise of Lyric"'s reception was, my first thought was "Sega! Are you trying to set a record for how many times a company can fuck up without going out of business?"

I've been actively watching this show as part of a project to review all Sonic shows. All of them are bad, (Sat AM has a 5/10 Underground and X have 4/10, and Ao St H has 3/10) but this is the ABSOLUTE WORST. (2.5/10!)

Everything that can go wrong with this show did.

- The jokes are awful. Out of the 27 episodes i've watched thus far, I've only laughed TWICE, and countless jokes make me cringe.

- The plots are stupid. I mean, Sonic tries to return a library book? Knuckles tries to restore "The luck balance of the universe" by going around and doing stupid crap for the whole episode? Amy decorating Eggman's lair? Terrible.

- The characters are SO ANNOYING. Every time Sticks, U.T, or the Gogobas opens their mouth, I feel the urge to claw my ears out.

- Eggman is destroyed. Gone is the bumbling, yet threatening Eggman of years passed. Instead, he's just Sonic's annoying neighbor. Countless episodes involve Sonic and Eggman's buddy buddy antics.

- The animation is pretty bad. It has some moments of greatness, but for the most part, the shading looks like the poorly animated cutscenes, and the liquid animation is EXTREMELY low quality.

I haven't seen all the episodes yet, so maybe they'll get better, but with plots like "Justin Bieber parody brainwashes Amy and Sticks" or "Cast reads a play Amy wrote" on the horizon, it's likely to get even WORSE.

Welcome to the thread, tell us what you like most about Sonic Boom!

Everything that can go wrong with this show did.

What I consider, with this show and many others, is that I am a young adult, not a child, and thus a lot of the goofiness and humor doesn't necessarily have to appeal to me. It's not really fair for me to look back and go, "Wow, this cartoon was utter shite because all the jokes are stupid and childish and the plots are blfahfaj"

That said, I do think we need more shows like Adventure Time, where the humor can be smart and ridiculous simultaneously and continuity actually matters, but I don't fault this show for being low-brow. The animation isn't that bad, not that I have an art degree, but at least we're not looking at the same shot three times, and characters move from place to place.

I might agree that Eggman isn't who I want him to be, but the show's focus is on comedy, and for that, he fits the bill.

Characters being annoying and being enjoyable is too subjective. I only find Knuckles annoying because they don't let up on his stupidity, it's like what they did to Sheen Estavez and Cosmo on Jimmy Neutron and Fairly Oddparents. It's like what they did to Patrick Star and Spongebob, they go from being semi-resonable to Flanderized idiots who could potentially destroy the world their own stupidity. It's not pleasant, but at least it's relegated to Knuckles.

Um... well...

There's no more Son Amy romance fluff...

And the voice acting for most of the main cast is good...

And select episodes have good plots...

And select episodes have good action...

And I laughed twice.

Other than that, not much.

We do have a review section. Just saying. But generally, we like ones with better criticism than hyperbolic reactions. You don't need to shout to be throwing out hyperbole. "This plot is stupid" is not a real criticism. Not without actually explaining why it's stupid.

Also, every other show has massive continuity(even the one with the least besides Boom, being Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, has more way more continuity, and it's noted with recurring characters and elements. And it's not reusing the same gag over and over again).

I vastly enjoy the show, but the gags do get overused. Like the Walrus mother even lampshading her own gag was the point where it was not nearly as funny.

I know about the reviews, this is just more active.

As for why the plots are stupid, I don't really need to explain why "Sonic Returning a Library Book" is a dumb plot. "Knuckles cures his bad luck" was just an excuse for him to do stupid things, and the interior decorator plot... WHY WOULD AMY help EGGMAN?

"Sonic returning a library book" is a dumb plot
I think the point is more that the absurdity of the plot is the source of its humor. Sure, Sonic could just deliver the thing and be done with it, but we wouldn't have a story, would we? Though the way they executed it is something I can agree turned out to be weak.

Why would Amy help Eggman?
Probably because he wasn't being an outright villain at the time? She's more willing to put up with him in general, but when you have to deal with Sonic, Knuckles and Sticks every day (especially Sonic and Knuckles), sometimes you just need a break.

[Sonic/Amy romance fluff] is not a thing
No, but they can tease the hell out of it.

I don't want to say that this is butt hurt that you're spreading, but it's close. I wasn't actually sure what I was expecting in the very first episode, but it was better than I would have come up with. I mean, I would love the fuck out this even more if they added more Shadow and Rouge, and I got my wish in the season finale. No Rouge yet, but that's just wishful thinking. The point is it's fun in it's own way, so don't expect a Sonic Sat AM clone. EVER.

"The point is it's fun in it's own way, so don't expect a Sonic Sat AM clone. EVER."

But I don't even like Sat AM. Plots are disjointed, I hate all the Sonally romance fluff, characters like Bunnie and Rotor have no personality whatsoever, and the comic relief is terrible. It's still the best show though.

"I think the point is more that the absurdity of the plot is the source of its humor. "

But the episode also isn't funny. The gag with the old monkey was funny at first, but then they repeated it again and again to the point where it became unbearable. And there was also the INSANELY drawn-out Meh Burger joke (ONE MINUTE OF ORDERING FOOD!) and the really annoying Gogoba scene.

"Probably because he wasn't being an outright villain at the time? "

That's another problem. Eggman is barely threatening anymore. He's just Sonic's annoying neighbor!

There's no romance fluff in that show either...they're basically a couple.

Doesn't matter. The romance is still very sappy, and adds nothing to the story. Romance has no place in Sonic, IMO.

It's not sappy either, they NEVER focus on it...it's just there.

Romance can have a place in anything with varying degrees of focus.

[up][up]I take it you just come for the action and fight scenes, and hate any kind of storyline that makes Sonic a more developed character, If that's true, I suggest not sticking around for any of it and return to playing Classic Sonic games, The times they are a-changin'.

And another problem with the show, IMO, is how painfully hard it tries to stay relevant. In just the first season, we've had...

- A joke about the "goat scream"

- A joke about the "shots fired" and "damn son, where'd you find this" internet memes

- Usage of the term "burn" referring to an insult

- Referencing "Don't TAZE me, bro!"

- An entire episode satirizing Boy bands

- An entire episode satirizing how easy it can be to gain internet fame

- Sonic being characterized as a hipster

- Sticks being literally an internet conspiracy theorist

And quite a few more.

And it wasn't wrong for Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog to do mostly the same thing for it's time?

Because comic books and most aspects of geek culture don't do that.

Apart from Sonic's totally radical slang, it didn't really. There certainly weren't any references to grunge, pogs, beanie babies, or whatever.

Ugh... I highly disagree. Personally, I HATE it when people pull back on criticism just because "It's not aimed at me!". I am for the belief that kids shows can be just as entertaining as adult shows. Big Hero 6, for example, is a kids movie. But the action, humor, plot, characters, animation, EVERYTHING is perfect, and it might be my favorite movie of all. There are lots of other kids media that I enjoy, such as Inside Out, The Peanuts Movie, Home, Battle For Dream Island, And Inanimate Insanity (Two great kids web-series, check them out). All of these hold their own against other series. They're not just good kids shows, they're good shows, period.

And the opposite, I don't rate kids shows differently in regards to bad quality. Take Frozen. This film, IMO, has bad songs, annoying comic relief, and bland story, and a ridiculously sappy ending. Do I ignore these flaws because "It's for kids!"? No.

Or the songs in MLP. All the songs are either bland pop-, bland Disney-soundtrack level music, and bland country (The music in this show is VERY overrated). Do I be lenient because it's for little girls? No.

Demographics shouldn't determine viewing experience, or how you rate them. Anything can be good regardless of target audience.

Of everything the show has to offer me, I am really not a fan of Sticks. I can see they attempted the "crazy silly aggressive feral weird adjectives synonyms words"... er... thingamabobber, but she never settled right for me. All 20 episodes I gave a chance, and not one did I find any of her character traits to be amusing without cringing a tad.

Knuckles, being the dim witted brute, also felt as an unwelcome character change. Same problem, similar reasons.
