The (dialogue) title comes from the Beethoven movies, but the trope is much wider than just being about dogs. The title also makes it seem like it's related to Tropey the Wonder Dog (in fact, it's on that page under Kick the Dog, despite the fact that its own page very specifically says it's not related to it).

It's a relatively minor complaint, but at only 24 wicks I figure we can change it without too much difficulty.

No, the other one.
Dunno, I think it's the same kind of dog as Tropey. It's a character you're supposed to like, with the contrast of the person in this trope not liking it, and who's ultimately proven wrong.

That said, what would be the expected stats of a trope like this?

I'm trying to figure out what the trope is. The examples and description feel very biased, as if the trope is bad or something, and the use in a work has to be defended.I feel like this is The Complainer Is Always Wrong About The Dog. But they don't reference each other.

I want to look at the cross wicks that don't have their examples written on the work page.

The trope is this: stuffy middle aged white guy hates the pet that his family got. It's most commonly a dog.

Not necessarily a pet, it just has to be something that everyone else likes and he doesn't.

Well, something hated by all but one person is pretty common. Only Sane Man type situations come to mind. You also often get cases where one charachter will have very different tastes from everyone else. That might be a useful trope, but this seems to be more narrow than that. I.e. it's about a specific plot rather than something that general. Basically, "disruptive influence enters someones life, they hate, everyone else likes it, and they get character growth out of it".

Seems like a super trope to Manic Pixie Dream Girl actually.

It could use a re-name at any rate, but I'm not sure what it should be.

[up] that's why I'm saying I don't understand the trope yet. It doesn't have to be a dog, or even a family member, so what is the trope telling us? A mundane version of mpdg? The complainer is wrong, because he's old and unfun?

Well, seems like everybody's looking at its own description. And the examples are all over the place. Would anybody mind of we cut this as an useless phrase page.

I'd be okay with that.

Gentleman Troper!
No objection here.
Special trousers. Very heroic.

Not even the cross wicks have helped me understand what's supposed to be going on. Less than 10 visitors per month, and most of the examples come from the ykttw. Yeah, kill this.
