True. Besides, you can bet there'll be some Funk Metal stuff on the album- there were always a few in the past. It's just that they do a lot of other stuff too... And that's part of what makes them good.

Just off the top of my head, a while back Jeff Mangum (of Neutral Milk Hotel) played for free at the 99% rallies. There's a whole black metal 'gathering,' in... Colorado, I believe, where all the bands play without receiving any money for their efforts, and all the fans don't have to pay anything to any larger entity in order to get in.
EDIT: I managed to locate the name of that black metal festival. It's called Gathering of Shadows

"I thought Djent was just a band" -Physical StaminaI knew this happened, but didn't know what the songs they played were. It's sort of interesting to me that everything in that setlist is either new or fairly obscure note . Which makes sense because they probably counted on the performance being attended by diehard fans who have heard "Epic" live more than enough times.

Earth is the only planet inhabitable by Nicolas Cage.I never implied they were the only ones to do it. But if you're discussing a band that's played to audiences like the Monsters of Rock festival, the list isn't very long.
Sure, I suppose that's fair enough. I mean, while it's relatively common for small bands to play for free, that sort of thing is a lot rarer among the commercially successful ones.
"I thought Djent was just a band" -Physical StaminaThat's probably what I like the most about FNM: they're weird as all hell at times and they still draw in massive audiences. It's like a perfect storm.
Wow, they're gonna make a stop here. I am crazy excited right now.
EDIT: YES! I got my ticket!

The studio version of Superhero. It's groovy.
Sol Invictus is officially out, if you didn't know. On first listen, I don't know if it's going to be up there with my favorites, but I like it. There's a definite "late period" FNM feel to most of this - that is, the album I'd most compare it to is King For A Day, only with a bit less heaviness and more Roddy Bottum. There's a little AOTY in there too, and maybe even a bit of that last Tomahawk album. Favorite tracks: "Superhero", "Matador", "Rise Of The Fall".

Earth is the only planet inhabitable by Nicolas Cage.Just bought Sol Invictus on the way back from the gym. It is GOOD shit, I highly recommend it.

Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveMan, Separation Anxiety and Rise of the Fall are really cool. And Back From The Dead almost sounds like a nice message to the fans (which is why they seem to finish shows with it now).
Love finally having Superhero and Motherfucker in my collection.
(kinda disappointed that the album doesn't have a lyric sheet)
Not that surprising, really. When I saw them play, they mostly selected songs from King for a Day. I think they really like that album. When I was listening to FNM's discography over and over in the months leading up to that show, it grew on me enough to hold it up to Angel Dust and The Real Thing. The big 3, if you will.

I'd say it reminds me of a combination of King For A Day... and Album Of The Year, myself, with a little Angel Dust-style crazy in there.
The singles are standouts, of course, especially "Superhero"- love the piano bits, the riffs and the vaguely funky rhythm- as is the aforementioned "Cone Of Shame" and the rather soulful "Rise Of The Fall"- it counts as Funk Metal, but its lower-key than most of their other tracks in that vein. Damn fine album, all around, though...

So apparently I've listened to Sol Invictus in its entirety about 12 times at least (Superhero is the stand-out at 19 times) and I'd like to think Sunny Side Up is the weakest track (not saying much, I know). Anyone agree?
I honestly wasn't impressed with the album on first listen, but it may grow on me.
One of my favorite bands of all time. The greatest band of the 1990's. Angel Dust is my second favorite album of all time (number 1 is Scenes From A Memory by Dream Theater). I really hope they do another round of dates later in the year because Sol Invictus was awesome and I badly, badly want to see them live.
I think FNM are a great band. The Real Thing, Angel Dust and King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime are awesome albums.
Excellent. Love it! Especially when the guitar suddenly comes in real heavy about two-thirds of the way in. Also, it's piano-based. Interesting...
