Ambiguous Name (Alt names crowner as of 6/21/13): Somethings Different About You Now get usage counts

Wandering...
[up]Sounds like a friend who is not male or female but is a "new gender" or their own gender (such as queergender or something that is non-binary).

No, the other one.
Or someone who just got a sex change.
Check out my fanfiction!

I would like to note that correctly the person has switched sex rather than gender, but "Old Friend New Sex" sounds like a different trope.

"My Sex-Changed Friend"?
29 Larkmarn, Tue, 21st May '13 1:08:30 PM Relationship Status: Hello, I love you
Again, just sounds like a friend got a sex change.

And I think "gender" here is fine. A large part of the trope is that, generally, no one thought the person was transgendered. So in the eyes of everyone in the reunion, they have changed genders. Still supporting OFNG.

Considering the term "gender reassignment surgery", which is technically "sex reassignment surgery", I think we can use OFNG. I'd rather be technically incorrect than misleading. I still favor Old Friend, New Gender.

[tup] to Old Friend, New Gender, though we could just go for the technical correctness and use Old Friend New Sex (with, of course, an I Thought It Meant line in the description to the effect that this isn't a sex trope).
Same thing for Gender Bender, where it says in the description that gender is used to describe physical sex. And we want to avoid renaming titles to those that need to have an I Thought It Meant disclaimer on them.

Really, the whole "gender !== sex" thing is a modern contrivance.

[up] Exactly. To hell with being technical. Old Friend, New Gender all the way.

Old Friend, New Gender seems to get the point across very well.

[up][up][up]Actually, it's the other way around. Gender and sex used to be wholly unrelated concepts. In fact, gender used to refer to language/linguistics. (Hence, the amusing-but-outdated saying, "words have gender; people have sex".)

The idea that gender and sex are basically synonyms is nearly younger than I am (and at least one of my dictionaries still lists it as informal). The idea that people can have gender distinct from their sex is slightly newer than that, but not by a lot, and it harks back to the original definition of gender. That said, all these definitions are in the dictionary, so calling any of them "wrong" is...silly.
"Existential Despair" is an oxymoron.

Can we call this? It's pretty clear that this needs a rename.

Calling the crowner. Unanimous, with 16 votes for renaming and none opposed.

Start brainstorming new names, please.

This is Rain. Isn't she pretty? :)
I agree with Old Friend, New Gender.
I'm not LGBT. I just think Rain's really cool.

Apologies if my humor gets too painful.

Can't we call this now? The first place is at 14 to 1. The second place is in the red.

Wicks, page move and tagging done save for a wick on the to-be-cut laconic.

The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.

Vote up names you like, vote down names you don't. Whether or not the title will actually be changed is determined with a different kind of crowner (the Single Proposition crowner). This one just collects and ranks alternative titles.
