Does Not Illustrate: Unexpected Character

I'm fine with the Snake and Mario picture.

Well we had a pretty strong consensus (unanimous, I think) to put up the current image, so we'd need a good show and likely a crowner if we really want to overturn that.

I checked it out and that 'pretty strong consensus' was the first four people and then you changed it. No one would be able to understand how those three are unexpected unless they've seen it because I just see three men standing there. The mario suggestion is good for the contrasting art styles. By all means let's have a crowner.

I agree that Snake looks like he is popping out from under a box, not wielding a crate. I have not played any games in that series. It is a good image.

"This from the previous thread is PERFECT. Snake is clearly of a different art style, he looks like he's revealing himself, and even Mario looks surprised. Plus, Mario is probably famous enough that most anyone would realize that this soldier-looking guy does not beling in that franchise."

A little over a year ago, this trope was called The Unexpected; the Monty Python image was a little bit funnier and a different decision then. The day has come for it to change. Consensus was I think for the Mario image then too, but the conversation was abruptly halted. All the support for the current image came before the Mario suggestion, and there is nothing but support for this afterward.

Exclamation point is a good addition.

I dunno, it makes it more noticeable to me that there is already one on the box.

32.2 I think that illustrates the "unexpected" nature of the trope well. Better than the original. I think the original qualifies for Just A Face And A Caption.
