Like I said, in terms of the way the characters act and the way the story is told, it has more in common with most shounen works, even the violence isn't really that excessive compared to something like Berserk or Zetman. The themes of the series on the other hand (sexuality, meta-commentary on faservice, etc) are not really something you're gonna find in shounen.
But they're demographics. Either it's aimed at young boys or it's aimed at men. The themes are a footnote. Death Note is shonen, even though its themes and subject wouldn't be out of place in seinen.
While shonen isn't entirely devoid of parody and satire, KLK has more of that than is typical for such a work. It also has a cast that, while fairly gender-even, is focused much more on female characters, including a female lead. While not unheard of in shonen, it's quite unusual.
I sure said that!I was just talking about general trends and things people associate with the demographic. Death Note would have probably fit in a seinen magazine fine, but it's in the shounen demographic because it was published in a shounen magazine. I'm not really sure how you could go about classifying KLK that way unless it aired late-night in an adult block or something.
Kill la Kill does use a lot of traditional tropes but it seems avoid many of the traps.
I guess I was wrong about Kill la Kill.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"KLK is absolutely aired in late-night time slot, for the record.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."Probably safe to call it seinen, then.
Dragon Ball Z is aired in a late-night time slot, too.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."In america. Its aired around 8:30 or 9:00 in the morning in japan.
Watch SymphogearI was just wondering where to put it in
The NHK Conspiracy is realYou were wondering where to j-j-j-j-JAM IT IN!
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.DBZ wasn't late night in America; it's currently running right now like extremely close to the end of CN regular times.
And at midnight when Toonami starts.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."... no.
DBZ is only running at midnight on Saturdays in the USA at the moment.
Trigger's new short project, Space Patrol Luluco, is definitely set in the KLK universe. Not only they all have those lo-fi pixelated displays everywhere, but the new character introduced (Luluco's Mom) has very clearly Life Fibers in her coat. Plus the light effects that follow her are similar to Ragyo's light beams.
"Effective Altruism" is just another bunch of horsesh*t.Or it could just be a sight reference? When Supernatural Battles Become Commonplace used a lot of visual references to KLK as well, and that's a Light Novel adaptation.
Or the same artistic crew members like to use those things again and again??
Technically, DBZ Kai also airs at 8pm.
It's likely a homage. After all, the same show has Inferno Cop as the Space Patrol chief. (Actually, it's apparently Inferno Cop's boss) Also, Luluco is great.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...To be honest I don't know if I like Imaishi's style too much, he seems to enjoy putting in as much as he can in one episode.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"That's exactly what I like.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
So it's basically nothing.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."
Kill la Kill is seinen?
