A few thoughts regarding Kickstarer project Lucy: The Eternity She Wished For:

  • The premise is kinda similar to Chobits or Kowarekake No Orgel. What will make the story different, as well as compelling?

  • I don't think they need to include the introductory paragraphs. The group might want to focus more on talking about what specific things will make their story interesting.

  • Developing for both PC and iOS is fine. Maybe they should consider Android as well.

  • Is the main character just The Generic Guy or a Featureless Protagonist? If not, what will make him interesting?

  • Finally, will the group benefit by creating a body pillow cover? I know that Sex Sells, but is it relevant to their story? Will it detract from the message they want to convey?

The Miskatonic is going to be a horror comedy. The more I looked at its Creepy Cute art, the more impressed I was. Right now they promise there will be a DRM free version as well as a Steam version. It will include puzzles, which can be frustrating in adventure games. Somehow, there will be some form of side scrolling, which leaves me wondering how it will work.

I checked Indiegogo again, and stumbled across Time 4 Doing Bad Things. Making a story about a Villain Protagonist and catharsis through violence is certainly an option. However, the person needs to promote their work, and add more than a vague description.

Why was the Lapis Azurai Kickstarter cancelled after just a couple weeks? The person has provided an explanation.

It's depressing to realize how many successful crowdfunded projects linger in development hell, or get outright cancelled. No category or format is immune. There is a Google Sheet which lists visual novels that have appeared on Kickstarter. They range from "released" and "still in development" to "cancelled" or "never funded."

Beach Bounce has already been funded, with nineteen days and a bunch of stretch goals to go. I don't want to jump to negative conclusions and say that I have Seen It A Million Times. However, I'm not sure what will make this story notable. The Kickstarter suggests it will be a boy meets girls story with a slice of life plot. Its art style is not especially distinct. There's just a sentence or two about each character. Also, it does not seem to promise complex gameplay or minigames.

Regeria Hope calls itself "...a whimsical courtroom visual novel in the style of Phoenix Wright with original characters and cases." It already has detailed information, including how the team will use money, what their credentials are, and so on. It even states that there's articles about the game on Siliconera and Rock Paper Shotgun.

June's Story: I know that originality is not everything. But after reading this Kickstarter entry, I was left wondering what's different about this story. There's not much information about the characters, plot, or setting. I'm also not sure if this will be freeware or a commercial release. Making an episodic story is certainly not a bad idea, but more info is necessary.

Cursed Sight seems to have a plot, a distinct aesthetic, as well as a sense of place. Also, I think it will be commercial, but I'm not sure. Just wish that I knew more about the plot.

Sekaiju Yggdrasil leaves me wondering what I think about it. There's a story involving mythology and the afterlife. The project promises full voice acting. The preview images include more gore than I expected. Finally, I kinda like the art style.

Two concerns: 1) I wouldn't call the art style unique or distinct. Would the project benefit from one that's different? 2) The story seems to involve an Ordinary High-School Student and his childhood friend who's at least an Implied Love Interest. The concept seems awfully familiar... I'm left wondering if the creators like translated pop culture media a lot, and just want to create something similar?

It's been just over a month. What's new? Well...

No One but You: The art caught my eye. But I'm not sure what I think of the premise. Will it be just another slice of life / modern day school / boy meets girl story? As far as I can tell, there won't be any complex gameplay.

Brilliant Shadows: A fantasy story. There are character profiles, and it's clear that it will be about friendship and romance. However, I don't know what else will happen. The art so far reminds me of the full color Elfquest comics that were printed in the 1990s. It's distinct, but I'm not enthusiastic about it.

Uh, I don't usually post here that often, I usually prefer to keep it to the trope pages. But I thought, since time is running a little low, I might as well push for a visual novel I'm supporting on Kickstarter myself.

(Disclaimer: If you are not a furry, you can stop reading here.)

It's called The Pirate's Fate. It's already Steam greenlit, and is being developed by a serious game company—which was more than the creators expected at first. It is, as might be guessed from the page title there, furry and transformation-based, but it's more than just a hack job rushed together for the sake of titillation (I've read the rules, and it IS on Steam; so, nothing explicit); I've been a fan of the extremely prolific author and artist for quite a while now, and while they do tend to go for Author Appeal, their collaborative novellas are always very well written and always end on a happy note...if occasionally strangely so. Either way, there's a lot of effort going into it, it's going to be very complex, and best of all, I've seen them work very quickly so it's most likely going to be out by the time they say it is. We'd all really appreciate your support.

Well, thanks for at least hearing me out!

I'm new to the work of visual novels, though I will stay what I happen upon looks pretty awesome. For your consideration, a European upstart by the name of Starbeam Studio has a dating sim called Harem Protagonist, scheduled to come out next Summer. The twist here is that our hero wakes up with a narrator character in his head, proclaiming him to a future harem master before realizing he's landed in the house of a Ordinary High-School Student. Subsequently he takes a very meta approach to his daily routine, as the main character string of fate causes him to have multiple highly interesting interactions with his female classmates.

Currently a demo is out, and while the game has already been funded, there are still stretch goals for Gender Bender fans, a choice of sex for the player character, and another classmate who leads a...most mysterious life.

Incidentally, if youse don't have time to download the demo, there's a let's play just released by Team Four Star (those guys behind DragonBall Z Abridged and Hellsing Ultimate Abridged) to gague whether the humor fits your bill or not. Hope you have an hour to kill, though.

Here's another kickstarter for the Visual Novel called Maid Mansion.

And one of the stretch goals is a secret Polygamy ending.

So, Lovely Little Thieves is back out of development hell! Plus, there's a more solid plan with frequent updates+more transparency, so we'll see if it holds up.

A couple more projects I've backed that look pretty neat- Monster Prom, which is going to have "competitive/cooperative" multiplayer options (and has some neat monster designs), and The Arcana, a visual novel for iOS that involves magic and fortune-telling, and has pretty sweet art, too.

Well there's a new Kickstarter-like site for Adults games called Kimochi.co

And there are some Visual Novel games in the works that are seeking funding.

I'm not sure i can post links to those games since they have some NSFW pics.
