The Eighth TV Tropes Writing Contest

I know we're supposed to use the free text host, I was recommending it for the next contest.

And I can't get it to work with me so I'll forgo the italics. They're not completely necessary and I don't lose anything without them.

The tags for italics in B Bcode is [i] [/i]. A lot of forums use them — not TV Tropes, though.

If it's not necessary, don't bother. I had to figure it out for mine because for mine it is necessary.

So er, can I assume the contest is over? So I can start handling links to the judges?

So we have a grand total of NINE contestants. That's quite a lot.

Not sure if I'm allowed, but for the sake of everyone's potential relief, I will list out the list of people whose submissions I've received, just in case(And don't worry, this isn't in the order I'm gonna give to the judges or anything). The grand list includes: Ars Thaumaturgis, Zodiacx3, Doodler, Hermiethefrog, ohsointocats, Psyga315, porschelemans, Jimmy T Malice, and The Handle.

I'll just wait until tomorrow to send in all the entries to the judges, just in case of late submissions or time zone confusion.

I have sent in all the entries to the three judges Nocturna, chihuahua, and finger puppet. My work here is more or less done until the judging is finished.

I've only read the first two stories so far, but I did click on all eleven links I was sent and I noticed most (as in eight) of these stories are untitled. It's traditional to refer to an untitled story as its first sentence, but obviously, considering the nature of this contest, using the second one will make a lot more sense here.

So most of you will probably want to keep your second sentence in mind so you'll know when we're talking about your story.

I'd advise against mentioning whether you titled yours or not at all, as that kind of defeats the purpose of the submission handler; with only three entries having a title, saying you've even done that lets us narrow it down to one of those three.

I just thought it was kind of silly how few people titled theirs.

So, what are the titles / second sentences come titles of the various stories?

Or are we not allowed to know that yet?

I don't see the harm in outing those since they still preserve the anonymity of the authors. We've got:

I wanted to be a reporter all my life
The Other Side of Town
But right now, I’m close to regretting it
Making Plans for Nigel
Well, calling it a decision would be technically correct
A warrior does not regret
The Princess' Decision
I remember being tired above all else
I've never had to contradict that
The truth is that I never truly walk alone
And I don’t regret it, despite making some bad choices before

I'll also go ahead and say if my current critique-writing trends keep up, my post is going to be gargantuan. There are so many specifics from the stories I've read so far that I want to address that I'm surprising myself at just how much writing I'm doing when I didn't even enter this thing.

So, while I know judges in the past have traditionally been more laconic, I hope nobody is put off by longer critiques because they're coming.

I think a laconic description of mine should be easy.

Writing: poor

Story: Bland

Overall: Terrible

I'm going to see if it's possible to compile all of the stories into one document to read while flying to New York, but I might start judging tomorrow.

Do not be so hard on your self, man. It is bad for your aura!
