First Installment and Franchise separation:

Don't let it die
As we discussed on this thread, I would like to fully separate series and their first installments. Not just by giving them different namespaces, but by giving them different titles. I already took action by creating VideoGame.Super Mario Bros 1 and VideoGame.Sonic The Hedgehog 1.

However, I did redirect VideoGame.Super Mario Bros to Franchise.Super Mario Bros since it could refer to the entire video game series. I did the same thing with VideoGame.Sonic The Hedgehog to Franchise.Sonic The Hedgehog. If you want different action taken on that or the same thing with every other franchise, you can discuss it here.

Wick Cleanup help is also appreciated: Here's all wicks I have changed that I feel need major help:

What if the other games in a series don't have separate pages for them?

VideoGame.Wing Commander, for example, is the only page for the game series (six "main" games, four Expansion Packs, and a couple of spin-offs). As one of the primary maintainers of the page (and the rest of the franchise pages) I can't say I feel any particular enthusiasm for breaking it up.

[up]Well, since that's just a list of the games, you don't have to separate it. The franchise page acts more of a disambiguation of the separate media the franchise occupies.

I suggested in another thread that the first Sonic the Hedgehog should have the page title "Sonic the Hedgehog 1991", and that the first Super Mario Bros. should have the page title "Super Mario Bros. 1985", just like how the first Crash Bandicoot has the page title "Crash Bandicoot 1996", but the current page title is fine too.

[up] The former would look better, given that we also have Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

[up]No, I like numeral designation, especially since those two series that I modified used numeral sequels for its first installments.

The "Work name 1" is for a Work that simply has numbered installments only.

This is not based upon the date released.

In addition, some games do have Dates on them as part of their title. For instance, Street Fighter 2010. I don't want to confuse these kind of things.

Where as simply adding a 1 does not put any confusions out.

That said, let's start compiling a list for Works that specifically have multiple pages with numbered sequels. So far, there's the already done Super Mario Bros., then Sonic The Hedgehog. Were any others done?

For some others;

  • Double Dragon
  • Mortal Kombat
  • Street Fighter
  • Lego Star Wars(assuming they all have their own page and not one universal version)

All I can think of at the moment.
Seeking for Light
[up] LEGO Star Wars was released in two sets, each with a distinct name, so they wouldn't fall under this. And they don't have an individual page; all the LEGO games are at LEGO Adaptation Game.

@Irene: VideoGame.Street Fighter I exists now. It's part of the reason that I wanted to do this.

On another note, I'm going to create VideoGame. The Legend Of Zelda I, since its sequel was named Zelda II. Once the red link turns blue, you know it's done.

Also, I redirected VideoGame. The Legend Of Zelda to Franchise. The Legend Of Zelda, under the rationale that the VideoGame namespace could also refer to every game in the series. I just want to make sure we're a-okay with this so that I could either change it back or keep it.

On another note, I found something strange with Main.Justice League. The problem with it is that the Main page is a redirect to both Justice League of America (which is in the Main namespace as of now) and the animated series WesternAnimation.Justice League. Now, we all know that the Franchise namespace is supposed to serve as the redirect in that situation, but Justice League of America and WesternAnimation.Justice League occupy different names. What should we do with this?

If they are duplicates and are meant to be the same work, merge them.

[up][up] I'm confused. How can a page redirect to more than one place? And what exactly is the relationship between the various media you referred to?

He's confusing a redirect with a disambiguation.

Seeking for Light
Ah, okay. I'm still unclear on exactly why it would be a problem, then. Disambigs are often in main.

Sorry about my disambiguation confusion. So should we keep Main.Justice League the way it is, or should we put it in the Franchise namespace, or should we put Main.Justice League Of America in the Franchise namespace?

Of America should go into Franchise. It's a fully different title compared to the other one.

Transferred to Franchise.Justice League Of America. That page just needs more details about various Justice League of America media.

I'm thinking of moving VideoGame.Castlevania 1986 to VideoGame.Castlevania I since the second, third, and fouth games in the series use Roman numeral designation. Is this alright?

Yes.

What was the reason for the earlier rename?

Also, Castlevania for the n64 should be labeled Castlevania64 for a similar reason.

Is VideoGame.Paper Mario 64 fine at its current location? I was the one who put it there before I brought up this issue, but I want to make sure with everyone.

I'm fine with that.

It helps it separate from the Franchise itself.
